Modern and progressive – the two composers and founders of the Munich Lab Band Felix Ecke and Vincent Eberle know how to make tradition sound anew. With great self-confidence, they mix jazz with elements of classical music and thereby manage to give the protagonists the freedom to develop musically on stage. Sometimes pompous and overwhelming, then again gentle, intimate and inviting to dream – hardly a facet of the music remains untouched in the band’s repertoire.

The Munich Lab Band was founded in 2019 by the two Munich composers and jazz trumpeters Felix Ecke and Vincent Eberle. Both have known each other since their time together at the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra. Since then, they have not only shared a great love of big band music, but also the dream of having their own big band. The name is inspired by the Lab Bands of the University of Northern Texas, of which the “One O’Clock Lab Band”, founded in 1947, is the oldest and probably the best known with seven Grammy nominations. The goal and vision of the “Munich Lab Band” is to integrate the style of that lab band into the everyday life of the German jazz scene and to make the traditional big band sound accessible to listeners who are used to pop music.
