Deutsche Grammophon presents a new album by brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen: Dutch Masters. Not only an ode to the Dutch composers of our time, but especially to pianist and teacher Ton Hartsuiker, who introduced piano brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen to Dutch modern music as children. “Everyone knows Bach, Mozart or Beethoven, but we also have many lesser-known composers from our homeland who have created many beautiful compositions,” the brothers say. The album presents a dazzling selection of compositions for two pianos and piano four hands from the 20th and 21st centuries by Dutch composers Louis Andriessen, Leo Smit, Willem Pijper, Jan Wisse, Theo Loevendie, Hans Henkemans and Joey Roukens. In addition, the repertoire includes two works composed especially for the two brothers: “Together” by Theo Loevendie and the piano concerto “In Unison” by Joey Roukens accompanied by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and their conductor Karina Canellakis. Both these works, as well as the compositions by Jan Wisse and Hans Henkemans, are world premiere recordings.
