We do not live our lives in straight lines. At any given age, we are both our current self and each of our past moments; an accumulation of every emotion, experience, or connection that has brought us closer to ourselves and our communities. This constant and ever-evolving doubling back of our identity becomes our story.

For me, the common weave to my story is music. Soulful music that draws people in, speaks the truth, opens our hearts, and brings us together. Music is my connective tissue, the roots of which come from the gospel music sung in St. John’s CME Church in Winston-Salem, NC, where my grandfather preached. That same sound emanated from so much of the soul and R & B I listened to in the sixties and seventies on the black AM radio stations, and later, the soft rock I was introduced to by Wolfman Jack on AM radio.
