Place of longing Paris – with the cellist Gautier Capuçon.

“Gautier Capuçon is like a diamond in a ring and sparkles on its edging,“ the New York Times enthusiastically resorted to pictorial comparisons. With such exuberant praise, it’s no wonder that the famous cellist’s albums are also absolute bestsellers. Intuition, emotions and sensations are now followed by his next album with a ravishing program: Destination Paris is dedicated to atmospheric evergreens and ranges from popular film music to French chansons to classical works.

Arranged for his cello, Gautier Capuçon presents varied compositions such as Édith Piaf’s “La Foule”, the hot-blooded “Habanera” from Bizet’s opera Carmen and the famous theme song from the 1966 French film classic Un Homme et une Femme. The album also features Charles Aznavour’s chanson “La Bohème”, which sings the magic of a bygone Paris in an incomparably melancholic way. And Claude Debussy’s “Beau soir” flows like a sultry summer evening. One of the most popular French songwriters and composers today, Jean-Jacques Goldman, wrote the composition “Pense à nous” for cello, children’s choir and orchestra especially for the album. The Maîtrise de Radio France (children’s Choir of the French Radio), the Orchestre de chambre de Paris under the direction of Lionel Bringuier and the pianist Jérôme Ducros are playing alongside Gautier Capuçon.

Georges Bizet: “Habanera” (Carmen) ▪ Charles Aznavour : “La Bohème” ▪ Franz Lehár: “Lips are silent” (Funny Widow) ▪ Jean-Philippe Rameau: “Danse des sauvages” (Les indes galantes) et al.
