The very birth of the For Musicians Only label is linked to Fabien Mary’s playing one evening in a Parisian club. The irresistible desire to transcribe this concert on tape so that the widest possible audience shares this emotion. The profession knows this trumpeter for his instrumental perfection as much as for a phenomenal jazz culture (the Jazz Academy has nominated him on numerous occasions.

Already, his choice of themes hardly yields to the big hits – barely I’ve Never Been In Love Before from Chet Baker’s repertoire and Never Let Me Go from Nat King Cole. Otherwise, Fabien Mary ventures into literary territory: Ceora by Lee Morgan, I’m Glad There Is You by Jimmy Dorsey, A Sound For Sore Ears by Jimmy Heath, With Malice Towards None by Tom McIntosh.

In the album Never Let Me Go, Fabien Mary asserts himself as a soloist at the top of his art: a fluid, measured, natural playing, without surprise and without haste.
