With his solo project Dope Lemon, songwriter Angus Stone is slowly but surely breaking free from the shadow of his successful duo with sister Julia Stone. At the latest since his 2022 album “Rose Pink Cadillac” reached number 1 in the Australian charts and won the AIR Award for “Best Independent Blues And Roots Album”. In Australia, too, Dope Lemon reached number 27, which is the best chart position for him in this country so far.

Now follows with “Kimosabè” the new Dope Lemon album, a more than worthy successor. The ten new songs inspire again with maximum relaxed sounds of lo-fi pop, proper psych impact and soulful warmth. Even Angus Stone’s idiosyncratic vocals seem strangely enraptured, which may also be due to the partially used distortion effect. The whole thing is produced to the point modern, but at the same time timeless in sound. In any case, “Kimosabè” does not sound like a typical work from the year 2023.

But like the perfect soundtrack to recall the lazy summer days when needed. For this alone you have to be grateful to Angus Stone aka Dope Lemon.
