Darkstar announce their fourth album Civic Jams on Warp. On their most personal record to date, Darkstar counterbalance observations of their home with those of the community surrounding it. Civic Jams is a photonegative of a dance record shaped by a dialogue between shoegaze atmospherics and UK bass music’s ‘hardcore continuum’. Darkstar find themselves at once looking homeward and venturing further into their own psychic hinterland with each record. Beethoven’s three sonatas of Op. 10 were published in September 1798 and were written with Beethoven the pianist as much to the forefront as Beethoven the composer. During this time, the young virtuoso was certainly as renowned as a pianist and improviser as he was a composer, and these three early sonatas contain the whole kaleidoscopic range of his youthful musical, emotional and pianistic language.
Pianist Daniel Tong returns to Resonus with this period instrument recording, his first solo album for the label, performed on a fortepiano by Paul McNulty – a copy of an 1805 instrument by the celebrated ‘Viennese School’ maker, Anton Walter.

Auf den ersten Blick scheint die jüngste Produktion aus dem Hause PASCHENrecords aus dem omnipräsenten Repertoire gestaltet, dem man seit Jahrzehnten in der Sparte »Trompete und Orgel« begegnet. Das Programm jedoch, das die Brüder Daniel und Simon Reichert eingespielt haben, ist völlig anders konzipiert: Den Schwerpunkt bildet eine Reihe von Wettbewerbsstücken, die im späten 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert für die Concours des Pariser Conservatoire geschrieben wurden – und zwar nicht für die Trompete, sondern für das französische »Cornet à pistons« (Ventil-Kornett), das an dem äußerst anspruchsvollen Lehrinstitut bis heute unterrichtet wird. Zu diesem gesellt sich nicht zufällig die Orgel der evangelischen Stadtkirche Gronau. Dieses 1904 gebaute Instrument stammt aus der Werkstatt von Wilhelm Sauer, der unter anderem bei Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, dem berühmten Meister der symphonischen Orgel, gelernt hatte und vieles von seinem »Lehrstoff« beherzigte, als er seine mächtigen Register zog, mit denen sich das 1890 von der französischen Firma Besson gebaute Kornett auf geradezu ideale Weise verbindet – ob sich die Komponisten der »Morceaux de concours« nun von ihrer poetisch-lyrischen oder dramatisch-virtuosen Seite zeigten. Mit Solostücken von Charles-Marie Widor und Maurice Duruflé gliedert Simon Reichert die konkurrenzlose Werkfolge, in der ferner die Namen des Schweizers Henri Büsser und des Bretonen Guy Ropartz einen besonders prominenten Platz einnehmen.

Claudio Arrau (1903-1991) is a pianist fully deserving of the epithet ‘legendary’.
