“I like contrast between my albums,” says Stephen Wilkinson aka Bibio. “When I finish an album, I crave doing something different for the next one.”
No more so is this made apparent with Wilkinson hitting a major milestone, releasing his 10th studio album. Over those ten albums he has gracefully glided between electronica, ambient, folk, pop, indie, funk, soul and just about any other sonic avenue he’s decided to turn down. After 2019’s Ribbons, an album he describes as “organic and woody sounding” with a “psych folk vibe”, for BIB10 he decided early on that he wanted to use more synths, drum machines, and electric guitars. “I wanted this album to sound more polished and slick,” he says. “But not ‘software perfect’. My influences for studio production mostly come from the 60s, 70s, and 80s where the craft was very different – getting a more polished sound, without ironing the humanity out of it, was part of the ethos.”

I founded the Balázs Rodek Trio in 2018 with such talented and sought-after young musicians as bassist Ádám Bögöthy and drummer Dàniel Ferenc Szabó. You can somehow feel who you are on the same wavelength musically with, who you can imagine working with. For me, Ádám and Dani are like that. I try to go to all their concerts where they play in other excellent formations or with their own formation and get inspired of their playing. With them I made my first trio album, which is titled Song of the day. Song of the day is a concept album telling the story of a day with a composition relating each time of a day. The listener can choose the song that is closest to him or her, the song of the day. We have been performing this show regularly since 2018, we won a special prize at the 2020 MÜPA Jazzshowcase festival, we have played at all the important venues in Hungary several times (Zemplén Festival, Budavár Wine Festival, Budapest Jazz Club, Zsolnay Quarter in Pécs, Szeged, Vác, to name but a few).

2017.12.6 Release
1967年、プロデューサーのクリード・テイラーが、A&Mレーベルで“CTI”(Creed Taylor Issue)というプロジェクトを立ち上げ、その後1970年にテイラーは独立して自身のレーベル“CTI”(Creed Taylor Inc.)を設立する。そしてジャズにR&B、ポップス、クラシック、ブラジル音楽など様々な音楽の要素を融合させたサウンドを展開し、それまでのジャズの“枠”を超越したアプローチで、今日“フュージョン”と呼ばれる音楽の基本スタイルを作り上げて、ジャズという音楽の可能性を大きく広げていった。さらに1971年には、よりR&B色の強い兄弟レーベル“Kudu”を設立して、その音楽性はさらに広がっていった。今年2017年は、最初のCTIの設立から50周年となる。そこでCTI/Kuduの名作の中から、通好みのレアな、だが内容の濃い作品が再リリースされる。今聴いても新鮮で、創造力溢れる作品たちだ。CTIの音楽は、今なお輝きを放ち続けている。

CTI Records (Creed Taylor Incorporated) is a jazz record label founded in 1967 by Creed Taylor. CTI was a subsidiary of A&M before becoming independent in 1970. Its first album was A Day in the Life by guitarist Wes Montgomery in 1967 Its roster included George Benson, Ron Carter, Eumir Deodato, Astrud Gilberto, Freddie Hubbard, Bob James, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hubert Laws, Stanley Turrentine, and Walter Wanderley,
Kudu Records was started in 1971 and concentrated on soul jazz with albums by Joe Beck, Hank Crawford, Grant Green, Idris Muhammad, Esther Phillips, Johnny “Hammond” Smith, Lonnie Smith, and Grover Washington Jr.
Salvation Records was a subsidiary label which released 10 albums during its existence, including music by Airto, Roland Hanna, Faith Howard, New York Jazz Quartet, Johnny “Hammond” Smith, and Gábor Szabó
Greenestreet, which (released albums by Jack Wilkins, Claudio Roditi, Les McCann) and Three Brothers (with albums by The Clams, Lou Christie, Duke Jones, and Cassandra Morgan) were short-lived labels affiliated with CTI.

En 1994, dans le cadre de son contrat Sony, Cyprien Katsaris se rendait à Hamburg, dans la belle acoustique de la Friedrich-Ebert Halle, pour enregistrer plusieurs œuvres de J. S. Bach où se dévoile l’empreinte, forte, de la musique italienne de la fin du XVIIe et du début du XVIIIe, et ses violons concertants flamboyants et virtuoses. Sony avait publié une partie des œuvres enregistrées, en 1995, au sein du récital « Italy in Bach ». En regroupant aujourd’hui ces gravures Sony restantes, inédites, avec une autre partie de session également non publiée à ce jour, réalisée en 2000 au studio Van Geest – et complétant ainsi le « Bach Recital » paru sur Piano 21 en 2009 (P007) – Cyprien Katsaris nous offre un ensemble d’oeuvres de l’auteur des Concertos brandebourgeois, des plus réjouissants.

“I couldn’t have imagined a better constellation for my first album!” says Cristina Gómez Godoy about her first recording. Goth-tinged singer and songwriter Claire Diterzi was born Claire Touzi dit Terzi in Tours, France, in 1971, and released her first solo album, Boucle, in 2006. Although she would earn critical and popular plaudits for her own compositions and performance, her career got off to a more group-oriented start, as part of the groups Forguette Mi Not and Dit Terzi. As those groups faded into memory, Diterzi moved to the stage, performing in the 2001 Philippe Decoufle work Iris. After a few years in Japan and further stage work, Diterzi got the music itch again, only this time deciding to focus on her solo career. The aforementioned Boucle (which, it should be noted, was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque in 2006 by L’Academie Charles-Cros) was recorded by Diterzi herself, and the critical response it drew led to an opportunity to write and compose music for the score to the 2007 Anne Feinsilber film Requiem for Billy the Kid. In 2008, Diterzi returned to the public consciousness with her follow-up solo release, Tableau de Chasse, on Naive Records.

Cloakroom celebrate their tenth anniversary as a band with their new album, Dissolution Wave – a concept album – a space western in which an act of theoretical physics—the dissolution wave—wipes out all of humanity’s existing art and abstract thought. In order to keep the world spinning on its axis, songsmiths must fill the ether with their compositions. Meanwhile, the Spire and Ward of Song act as a filter for human imagination: only the best material can pass through the filter and keep the world turning. This is the universe that Cloakroom guitarist/vocalist Doyle Martin conceived as a way of processing the last few years. “We lost a couple of close friends over the course of writing this record,” he says. “Dreaming up another world felt easier to digest than the real nitty-gritty we’re immersed in every day.” With lyrics based on an imagined cosmology, Dissolution Wave also marks a grand expansion of Cloakroom’s dreamy space-rock palette. Written from the perspective of the album’s protagonist—an asteroid miner who writes songs by night—”A Force at Play” has an airy, pastoral feel. Meanwhile, the melancholy title track captures the miner’s regret as they lament that they signed up for such a long stint on the job, while closer “Dissembler” describes their anxiety about the revelator who will judge their work. “If you don’t write a good enough song in this universe, you run the risk of being forgotten and lose the opportunity to return as a meaningful form of life,” Martin explains.

During the BET Awards 2022 this past Sunday (June 26), Edmonds performed the album’s lead single “Keeps on Fallin’” with Ella Mai. The album, which marks his Capitol Records debut, will also be Edmonds’ first album since Return of the Tender Lover in 2015.

‘Indie’ cross-over composers and their Polish avant-garde heroes come together in a program about musical inheritance. The “Indies & Idols” program is an excellent example of artistic director Richard Tognetti’s flair for making a unified narrative out of the apparently eclectic. In this case – a meeting of the heroes of the Polish avant-garde with some contemporary ‘indie’ cross-over artists who admire them.
Tognetti thinks that the contemporary composers of “Indies & Idols” – Jonny Greenwood, Sufjan Stevens and Bryce Dessner – are the inheritors of what has been a “slow-motion response” to the upheavals of Modernism. This generation that I’m part of, and younger, have all responded to Modernism in a sort of slow dance, if you like”, he says. “It’s taken a long time.
