After leaving Apple Records in 1969, James Taylor signed a deal with Warner Bros. During those six years of partnership, his meteoritic rise made him one of the most adulated folk singers in the United States, for hits such as Fire and Rain and You’ve Got a Friend, that encapsulated his lyrical prowess, entrancing voice and overall capacity to rethink folk idioms in a more commercial-friendly format. One Man Dog is the fourth album by the legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor. Released in 1972, it made it all the way to #4 on the US Billboard Pop Albums charts. It was a concept album comprised of 18 short pieces strung together was primarily recorded in Taylor’s home studio. One Man Dog features the hit “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”, which peaked at #14 on the Billboard charts on January 13, 1973.

Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon was originally released in 1971 and is James Taylor’s third album, following the breakthrough album Sweet Baby James. The album did very well upon its release and featured the hit single “You’ve Got a Friend” (originally by Carole King), which became Taylor’s only #1 hit on the Billboard Charts. The album peaked at #2 on the charts in 1971. James Taylor won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male in 1972 for “You’ve Got a Friend”.
