King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are (of course) back with another new album — it’s called Omnium Gatherum and pre-orders for it will begin on March 22, though no official release date has been announced yet. It’s the Australian band’s follow-up to last year’s Butterfly 3000, which got the full remix treatment at the top of this year. Omnium Gatherum apparently started as a way to put out songs that didn’t fit on older albums but, in typical King Gizzard fashion, things spiraled from there.

Kinga Rose is a Hungarian born singer-songwriter, best known in Luxembourg for a series of live radio performances in 2020 and 2021, that attracted the interest of some of the top musical producers in the small Duchy and led to a record deal with Timezone Records, in Germany.
She is classically trained as a pianist and singer but also studied Jazz singing at the Etud Conservatory in Hungary. She currently studies Jazz piano at the Luxembourg City Conservatory. This mix of classical and Jazz music, along with pop influences such as Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Norah Jones make Kinga Rose instantly recognisable as an artist that blends Eastern European and Western soundscapes.

In this long poem, all the birds in the world are summoned together by the wise Hoopoe, “the leader of the high pathes and the deep valleys”, who suggest them to start the spiritual journey of Life, despite of its difficulties and challenges, to search for Sîmorgh.

Although familiar with the Art of Fugue for much of my life, I did not set about learning it in its entirety until 2020. When Covid-19 put all concert life on hold, like my fellow musicians, I was left homebound with an ever increasing calendar of cancellations; my first Art of Fugue recital was the one I mourned the most. I took advantage of the time of seclusion to immerse myself in the work. Day after day, I turned to it for comfort, for inspiration and for connection in an unsure world. To be in constant awe at Bach’s limitless imagination and skill while challenging myself to hear – really hear – all that was going on, elevated my mood and gave me great joy. It was an act of devotion. I cherish the memory of it.

Three albums in 71 years spent on this earth would suggest a work-rate that is not particularly infernal. However, Keith Richards does not only work for himself, but as a principal songwriter for a little known band called The Rolling Stones… Emerging from the shadows on the 18th September, Crosseyed Heart is the third studio offering from the human riff, whose last solo venture dates from as far back as 1992’s Main Offender. With nothing to prove, and perhaps nothing to gain, Richards allows himself to have fantastic fun on a disc that reaches nearly an hour. It has no frills, and is all the more endearing for it. Surrounded by three long-time collaborators, namely Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Ivan Neville (keyboards), and the album’s co-composer Steve Jordan (drums), Richards brilliantly slaloms between rock, blues, country and reggae, wielding his eternally potent image as a rakish, ethereal tramp. The production on Crosseyed Heart merits a mention, sticking firmly to the guitarist’s blueprint, and thereby bringing a touch of authenticity to the disc. But it is, finally, in the ballads and slower songs that Keith Richards works wonders here (the acoustic opening to the bluesy track ‘Crosseyed Heart’ reminded Qobuz of Robert Johnson; as did ‘Robbed Blind’ and ‘Suspicious’). It is a delight to see this living God of Rock leave his status in the changing room, and play and sing in a simple, direct way. We wish to alert your attention, finally, to two further tracks, a cover of ‘Goodnight Irene’ by Leadbelly, and the track ‘Illusion’, which features guest vocals from Norah Jones.

Dreamlover is a concept – album that brings together important part of Albena Petrovic’s works for Baritone Saxophone, Alto Saxophone solo and chamber music, here She choose the pieces in relation to Joan Marti-Frasquier, who interpreted all of them, and somehow, he gave the initial energy to this creative process. Her catalogue for Saxophones started in 2006-2007 with the quartet « Gebet zum Nichterscheinen », where the Baritone plays almost solo by integrating it into the quartet. This was the time when saxophone ensembles made an important presence and were multiplying all over Europe. The piece appeared during this period, but without being published it did not enjoy great popularity after its premiere; yet 15 years later She rediscovered it without a wrinkle, thanks to the Kebyart Ensemble. It is very curious to discover in this early piece as a precursor, many of the characteristic elements that will mark her later writing. This album which is most a tribute to the Baritone Saxophone shows a new aspect of her work. On the one hand it expresses the dreamy side of her aesthetic through the technical and sound possibilities of this instrument which is rarely given solo pieces, on the other hand She tried to broaden, thanks to the virtuoso Joan Marti – Frasquier, the range of sonic possibilities of the instrument, without succeeding to exhaust it because each time there is still more to discover.

You don’t need to be a particularly avid music fan to know that if there’s a new Kavinsky record coming, it will probably mine the whole sad robots/80s neon futurism aesthetic in clean, crisp musical widescreen. After all, if you’ve racked up a quarter of a billion streams for ‘Nightcall’, the behemoth single that became the de facto theme to Drive a decade ago, you’d be forgiven for sticking to a winning formula. However, what Kavinsky surrenders to predictability he more than makes up for with exquisite execution, and Reborn — his first long-player in nine years — presents twelve iterations of his one irresistible trick to within an inch of perfection.
