British rock band Marillion, founded in 1979, have, over the course of 18 albums, become one of the most commercially successful neo-progressive rock bands of the 1980s and are still one of the most outstanding representatives of their genre. As the first of their peers, Marillion have started to embrace the potential of the Internet for both their commercial approach and to interact with their audience. In 2013, the band was even declared ‘Band of the Year’ at the second annual Prog Rock Awards. Recorded at The Racket Club and Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, and with a running time of almost 80 minutes, ‘With Friends from the Orchestra’ features nine classic Marillion tracks re-imagined and accompanied by the In Praise of Folly String Quartet, with Sam Morris (French Horn) and Emma Halnan (Flute).

It all started with the release of “With Friends From The Orchestra” in 2019, when Marillion teamed up with “In Praise of Folly”, a string quartet accompanied by French horn and flute, to record a stunning album full of re-arranged Marillion treasures.

That same year, Marillion took these very special versions on tour and even added a few more songs like “Gaza” and “Zeparated Out” to the setlist, presenting them in a whole new light.

“With Friends At St David’s” is not only a visually and sonically remarkable live album, but also a dedication to crossing musical boundaries and making “friends” outside of one genre and musical universe.

Following the multi-platinum success of Marillion’s concept album Misplaced Childhood, the British quintet returned in 1987 with their fourth studio album, Clutching At Straws. The album peaked at #2 on the U.K. charts, where it scored Top 40 hits with “Incommunicado,” “Sugar Mice,” and “Warm Wet Circles.” Considered by many to be one of the neo-prog rocker’s finest, Clutching At Straws would also turn out to be Marillion’s final studio release with original singer Fish.

In March 1984, Marillion released their second studio album Fugazi, which went on to be certified Gold and reach number 5 in the UK albums charts. The classic album spawned two singles Assassing and Punch and Judy, both reaching #22 and #29 on the UK singles charts respectively. Fugazi was the first Marillion album to feature Ian Mosley on drums and percussion, replacing Mick Pointer after the highly successful Script For A Jester’s Tear. It also included Fish, Steve Rothery, Pete Trewavas and Mark Kelly.

This is a fantastic single by Marillion. After listening to this single I am extremely exited for the release of the full album. Every musician shines here. I especially love the keyboards by Mark Kelly and vocals by Steve Hogarth. The song is very well written and never gets boring. The single also has a lot of emotion throughout it. The single also has magnificent guitar moments by Steve Rothery. Ever since I first heard this single I have been unable to stop listening to it. It’s that good! I would highly recommend listening to this if you are a fan of Marillion or if you just want to hear something great.

On October 13, 2017, Marillion played at the Royal Albert Hall for the very first time. The concert was sold out in a split second and the audience, travelling from all over the world, was rewarded with an incredible Marillion show. In two parts, “All One Tonight” firstly showcases the band s acclaimed 2016 studio album “F E A R” in full. Accompanied by an awe-inspiring light show and films, Marillion perform their incisive and era-defining zeitgeist with unparalleled passion and power. The second half introduces “In Praise Of Folly” and guests, a string quartet with flute and French horn that throughout the rest of the show inject an extra depth and emotion to some of Marillion s best-loved live material.
