SUMARI IV is the group’s first studio album featuring the miraculous double-bassist Hilliard Greene. This is also Sumari’s first studio album recorded and mixed after the passing of engineer Jim DeSalvo, who was responsible for documenting their previous work. SUMARI IV’s commanding music, mixing the utmost in simplicity with taut, intricate layers of rhythm, appears here through the virtuosity of the musicians alone, eschewing overdubs and effects heard on Sumari II and III. There are moments when a bell-like rhythm appears and one wonders if is it Hill Greene playing harmonics, the bell of Tom Cabrera’s ride cymbal, Matt Lavelle’s swallowed alto clarinet outcry or Jack DeSalvo’s tintabulistic guitar and banjo pluckings, which is to say the players’ musical consciousness merged during the many moments of coalescence. This an album of ancient dances and future visions.

The Dream of the Blue Turtles is the first solo album by English musician Sting, released in June 1985. The album reached number three on the UK Albums Chart[18] and number two on the US Billboard 200.
Five singles were released from the album: “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free,” “Fortress Around Your Heart,” “Russians,” “Moon Over Bourbon Street,” and “Love Is the Seventh Wave”. The album earned Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Jazz Instrumental Performance and Best Engineered Recording.

Falling somewhere between the pop sensibilities of Ten Summoner’s Tales and the searching ambition of The Soul Cages, Mercury Falling is one of Sting’s tighter records, even if it fails to compel as much as his previous solo albums. Though he doesn’t flaunt his jazz aspirations as he did in the mid-’80s, Mercury Falling feels more serious than The Dream of the Blue Turtles, primarily because of its reserved, high-class production and execution. Building from surprisingly simple, memorable melodies, Sting creates multi-layered, vaguely soul-influenced arrangements that carry all of the hallmarks of someone who has studied music, not lived it. Of course, there are many pleasures in the record — for all of his pretensions, Sting remains an engaging melodicist, as well as a clever lyricist. There just happens to be a distinct lack of energy, stemming from the suffocating layers of synthesizers. …Nothing Like the Sun is the second solo studio album by English singer-songwriter Sting. The album was originally released on 5 October 1987 on A&M (worldwide). The album explores the genres of pop rock, soft rock, jazz, reggae, world, acoustic rock, dance-rock, and funk rock. The songs were recorded during March–August in 1987 in sessions that took place at Air Studios, in Montserrat, assisted by record producers Hugh Padgham, Bryan Loren, and Neil Dorfsman. It features a number of high-profile guest guitarists, including former Police member Andy Summers, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and Hiram Bullock, and is generally regarded as the culmination of the smoother, more adult-oriented sound of Sting’s early work.

Steve Dobrogosz is an American pianist and composer based in Sweden whose career spans several decades and ranges in style from classical to jazz and pop. He was particularly successful in collaboration with vocalists Radka Toneff during the early ’80s, Berit Andersson during the late ’80s and early ’90s, and Anna Christoffersson during the mid- to late 2000s. Born on January 26, 1956, in Bellefonte, PA, Dobrogosz grew up in Raleigh, NC, and later studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In 1978 he moved to Stockholm, Sweden, and began a fruitful musical career there amid the city’s vibrant jazz scene.

Low Fi is the third EP by English-French rock band Stereolab, released in September 1992 by Too Pure. The title of the final track “Elektro (He Held the World in His Iron Grip)” is taken from the cover of the thirteenth issue of the comic book Tales of Suspense, released in 1961. It is the first Stereolab release to feature longtime drummer Andy Ramsay and backing vocalist Mary Hansen, who stayed with the band until her death in 2002. The EP was compiled on physical releases of Pulse of the Early Brain.
