Hommage a Grieg: Vol. III – 2L Audiophile Recordings (2011) Bluray 1080p AVC DTS-HD MA 5.1

Title: Hommage à Grieg: Vol. III
Year: 2011
Genre: Classical
Artist: dena piano duo

Description:

There is a recurrent theme running through the program presented by the Dena Piano Duo in this production; all four composers and works have a particular relationship to Edvard Grieg. Both Johannes Brahms and Camille Saint-Saëns were friends of Grieg, and in several of his works the inspiration Grieg gained from his colleagues in Vienna and Paris is easy to hear. In between the works of Brahms and Saint-Saëns the Dena Piano Duo play two Norwegian works they have commissioned from the composers Wolfgang Plagge and Terje Bjørklund with this recording in mind.

Tracklist:

01. Brahms: Variationen über ein Thema von Joseph Haydn, op. 56 b
02. Plagge: Grieg metamorphosis, op. 160

The Hurting would have been a daring debut for a pop-oriented band in any era, but it was an unexpected success in England in 1983, mostly by virtue of its makers’ ability to package an unpleasant subject — the psychologically wretched family histories of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith — in an attractive and sellable musical format. Not that there weren’t a few predecessors, most obviously John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band album — which was also, not coincidentally, inspired by the work of primal scream pioneer Arthur Janov. (But Lennon had the advantage of being an ex-Beatle when that meant the equivalent to having a box next to God’s in the great arena of life, where Tears for Fears were just starting out.) Decades later, “Pale Shelter,” “Ideas as Opiates,” “Memories Fade,” “Suffer the Children,” “Watch Me Bleed,” “Change,” and “Start of the Breakdown” are powerful pieces of music, beautifully executed in an almost minimalist style. “Memories Fade” offers emotional resonances reminiscent of “Working Class Hero,” while “Pale Shelter” functions on a wholly different level, an exquisite sonic painting sweeping the listener up in layers of pulsing synthesizers, acoustic guitar arpeggios, and sheets of electronic sound (and anticipating the sonic texture, if not the precise sound of their international breakthrough pop hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”). The work is sometimes uncomfortably personal, but musically compelling enough to bring it back across the decades. (more…)

Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim – Getz/Gilberto (1964/2013) [Blu-Ray Audio Rip 24-96]

One of the biggest-selling jazz albums of all time, not to mention bossa nova’s finest moment, Getz/Gilberto trumped Jazz Samba by bringing two of bossa nova’s greatest innovators — guitarist/singer João Gilberto and composer/pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim — to New York to record with Stan Getz. The results were magic. Ever since Jazz Samba, the jazz marketplace had been flooded with bossa nova albums, and the overexposure was beginning to make the music seem like a fad. Getz/Gilberto made bossa nova a permanent part of the jazz landscape not just with its unassailable beauty, but with one of the biggest smash hit singles in jazz history — “The Girl From Ipanema,” a Jobim classic sung by João’s wife, Astrud Gilberto, who had never performed outside of her own home prior to the recording session. Beyond that, most of the Jobim songs recorded here also became standards of the genre — “Corcovado” (which featured another vocal by Astrud), “So Danço Samba,” “O Grande Amor,” a new version of “Desafinado.” With such uniformly brilliant material, it’s no wonder the album was such a success but, even apart from that, the musicians all play with an effortless grace that’s arguably the fullest expression of bossa nova’s dreamy romanticism ever brought to American listeners. Getz himself has never been more lyrical, and Gilberto and Jobim pull off the harmonic and rhythmic sophistication of the songs with a warm, relaxed charm. This music has nearly universal appeal; it’s one of those rare jazz records about which the purist elite and the buying public are in total agreement. Beyond essential. (more…)

Genesis proved that they could rock on Foxtrot but on its follow-up Selling England by the Pound they didn’t follow this route, they returned to the English eccentricity of their first records, which wasn’t so much a retreat as a consolidation of powers. For even if this eight-track album has no one song that hits as hard as “Watcher of the Skies,” Genesis hasn’t sacrificed the newfound immediacy of Foxtrot: they’ve married it to their eccentricity, finding ways to infuse it into the delicate whimsy that’s been their calling card since the beginning. This, combined with many overt literary allusions — the Tolkeinisms of the title of “The Battle of Epping Forest” only being the most apparent — gives this album a storybook quality. It plays as a collection of short stories, fables, and fairy tales, and it is also a rock record, which naturally makes it quite extraordinary as a collection, but also as a set of individual songs. Genesis has never been as direct as they’ve been on the fanciful yet hook-driven “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)” — apart from the fluttering flutes in the fade-out, it could easily be mistaken for a glam single — or as achingly fragile as on “More Fool Me,” sung by Phil Collins. It’s this delicate balance and how the album showcases the band’s narrative force on a small scale as well as large that makes this their arguable high-water mark. (more…)

The Sex Pistols – Never Mind The Bollocks (1977/2014) [Blu-Ray Audio Rip 24-96]

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 110:11 minutes | 2,44 GB
Blu-Ray Audio Rip | Sourced Track – LPCM 2.0 Stereo

High Fidelity Pure Audio edition of the classic Sex Pistols album Never Mind The Bollocks…. Here’s The Sex Pistols. Expanded with four B-Sides & two live show from 1977. 30 tracks total.

While mostly accurate, dismissing Never Mind the Bollocks as merely a series of loud, ragged midtempo rockers with a harsh, grating vocalist and not much melody would be a terrible error. Already anthemic songs are rendered positively transcendent by Johnny Rotten’s rabid, foaming delivery. His bitterly sarcastic attacks on pretentious affectation and the very foundations of British society were all carried out in the most confrontational, impolite manner possible. Most imitators of the Pistols’ angry nihilism missed the point: underneath the shock tactics and theatrical negativity were social critiques carefully designed for maximum impact. Never Mind the Bollocks perfectly articulated the frustration, rage, and dissatisfaction of the British working class with the establishment, a spirit quick to translate itself to strictly rock & roll terms. the Pistols paved the way for countless other bands to make similarly rebellious statements, but arguably none were as daring or effective. It’s easy to see how the band’s roaring energy, overwhelmingly snotty attitude, and Rotten’s furious ranting sparked a musical revolution, and those qualities haven’t diminished one bit over time. Never Mind the Bollocks is simply one of the greatest, most inspiring rock records of all time. (more…)

Lenny Kravitz – Are You Gonna Go My Way (1993/2014) [Blu-Ray Audio Rip 24bit/192kHz]

Lenny Kravitz – Are You Gonna Go My Way (1993/2014)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/192 kHz | Time – 46:35 minutes | 1,95 GB
Blu-Ray Audio Rip | Sourced Track – LPCM 2.0 Stereo

The cover indicates that Are You Gonna Go My Way is Lenny Kravitz’s bid for rock stardom. Designed in the style of an early-’70s record, it features Kravitz in hippie clothing, apparently exposing himself to a photographer — in other words, he’s a dangerously sexy counterculture rebel. That may have been true in 1970, but in 1993, he simply sounds like a weird sideshow exhibit, the man who never lived past 1973. Of course, it’s easy to make such potshots, but Kravitz opens himself up to such attacks. No other artist, especially a successful one, has been quite so devoted to the past and ignorant of the present. Since he has considerable talent for songcraft and production, Kravitz isn’t nearly as bad as he could be, and Are You Gonna Go My Way is just as enjoyable and more accomplished than its predecessors. This time around, Hendrix is his chief influence, as evidenced by the roaring title track, and he does expand that with his traditional Lennon, Curtis Mayfield, and Prince obsessions. Song for song, it’s his most consistent album, although by the end of the record, his painstaking reproduction of classic rock sounds begins to appear a bit too studied, suggesting that Kravitz may have hit a creative wall. Nevertheless, that does nothing to diminish the enjoyment of this record. (more…)

Symphonies of Wind Instruments (2013) Bluray – HDCLUB

Symphonies of Wind Instruments

“A composer speaking about his own problems is also speaking about the problems of mankind,” asserted Schoenberg. “I was made a revolutionary in spite of myself,” said Stravinsky. Hindemith spoke of a forthcoming “big battle over new music”, and added, “the need will be to prove whether or not the music of our day, including my own, is capable of survival.” Today these composers are regarded as being three of the most seminal figures in music history in the first half of the 20th century. Meanwhile a composer at the end of the same century, Rolf Wallin, has written music that portrays “the dancing dynamics of the universe”, where nothing is stable and everything is volatile. The works featured on this album by these four composers reflect the universal and timeless balance between tradition and innovation, and the Royal Norwegian Navy Band under Ingar Bergby illuminate this balance in their recordings of these works, and breathe new life into this music.

Remote Galaxy by Flint Juventino Beppe (2012) Blu-ray 1080i AVC Auro-3D 9.1 – HDCLUB

REMOTE GALAXY by Flint Juventino Beppe

Can the dualism of life, nature and art be expressed in pure music? This is the question the multi-talented composer Flint Juventino Beppe – formerly known as Fred Jonny Berg – has set out to answer. The album Remote Galaxy is a journey in time and space, a journey given meaning by the album’s music and philosophy. The music is uncompromisingly honest, with a genuine power of its own. Using well-known acoustic technology, the composer takes us to some unusual and, for most of us, unknown places.

Remote Galaxy continues the journey of 2L’s Grammy nominated album Flute Mystery, and again the Philharmonia Orchestra is conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy to interpret these adventurous scores. The composer’s deep spiritual interest in nature, philosophy and space is as central in the universe of Remote Galaxy as it was in Flute Mystery. Beppe’s music leaves a unique fingerprint in the artistic world: there is quite simply nothing like it.

The individual and inventive nature of his orchestral works demands a rich palette of instruments and an extended use of woodwinds, brass and organ. As solo instruments, the intense but delicate sound of the clarinet, the scope of the flute’s range of expression and the special characteristics of the rarely used viola da gamba make for an inimitable atmosphere captured in 2L’s innovative surround sound technology. With the introduction of height channels, acoustic reflections create a natural sound presence originating from both around and above the listener. The Auro-3D format on this Pure Audio Blu-ray features sound reproduction that is more realistic than anything you’ve heard before. It delivers a new standard in immersion, fully enveloping the audience in a cocoon of life-like audio.
5.1 + 7.1 + 9.1 SURROUND + STEREO produced in DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition 352kHz/24bit) by Lindberg Lyd AS. Facebook Photo Album from the Recording Sessions at Watford Colosseum

The whole spectrum of Beppe’s musical philosophy is mirrored in his works: “It’s really as simple as it is complicated – I breathe in what life has to offer, and breathe out what I have to offer life. I have given up trying to grasp what actually happens in the process from impression to expression.” Beppe is diagnosed with Tourette’s and Asperger’s syndromes, and his approach to life is self-reflective and as uncompromising as his music: “When I take a look at the mountains or the sky, I realize I cannot spend my time on anything but grandness. It’s that or nothing.”

Originally released in March of 1964, this legendary collaboration between saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist Joao Gilbertocame at the end of the bossa nova craze Getz had sparked in 1962 with Jazz Samba. In fact, Getz had to push for the release of Getz/Gilberto as his record company didn’t want to compete with their own hit. The album ended up spending 96 weeks on the charts and won four Grammy Awards. Getz/Gilberto remains one of those rare cases in popular music where commercial success matches the artistic merit.

Blu-ray Pure Audio Discs:

Audio is taken from the original master tapes and mastered in 24-bit/96kHz resolution with a choice of three sound formats: PCM, Dolby True HD, or DTS-HD Master Audio. You can finally enjoy the music in the fidelity originally experienced in the studio.
