For the second Graupner-focused release from the Kirchheimer BachConsort, the ensemble perform solo and dialogue cantatas by this exceptional composer. With his inexhaustible imagination he was able to create cantatas rich in contrasts and with variability, originality, diversified instrumentation, opulence, and drama. The interplay of the vocal and instrumental parts is also a special feature of his music. In the introduction to his Hymnbook published in 1728 Graupner emphasized what in his view was the most important task facing a composer: ‘Edifying words in a song make an even deeper impression on human hearts when the meaning and message of the text, as it were, are vividly presented through the music with carefully considered and select expressions. And this is the noblest thing in every composition in which specific texts and words are prescribed’. In his cantatas Graupner succeeded in employing purposeful musical affections to illustrate and represent the texts. For him there was no difference between secular and sacred music; he knew how to engage in skillful negotiations between these two genres.

‘Safe Hands’ is the brand new album from acclaimed songwriter and producer Jodie Nicholson. Ultimately about self trust, Nicholson uses brooding chamber-pop and synth-laden alt-pop to navigate many of the different relationships we have in our lives: friends, family, relationships with ourselves and, more personally, her changing relationship with music.
Self-produced by Nicholson at Blank Studios in Newcastle, the recording process was complemented by mix engineer Oli Deakin (CMAT, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Elanor Moss) and mastering engineer Katie Tavini (Arlo Parks, Nadine Shah, Sega Bodega). The resultant album takes the listener on intimate journeys of minimalism and melancholy through to blooming, euphoric ends, with Nicholson’s signature rich harmonies and ethereal, reed-like vocals remaining a compelling constant.
Exploring themes of escapism, nostalgia and self-reflection, Nicholson leans on musical influences including Daughter, Matt Corby, The National, Warpaint, Lucy Rose and Laura Marling. There are also nods to her prog-rock upbringing and 80s inspired outros that wouldn’t sound out of place on the soundtracks to Drive and Stranger Things.

Within the depths of our souls, we all experience various forms of desire-love, solitude, compassion. These yearnings, these colors of life, are what I sing about in my album, ‘Longing.’
One of my tracks, my first single, ‘West 4th Street,’ It tells the image of the intense jazz scene in New York City that inspired me. The title is the name of a street where the most jazzy neighborhoods are in the world, and there are two versions in my album, which are in Korean and English, to keep my Korean heritage in jazz.
The title track, “Longing,” was written during a pandemic. In an unexpected situation, I suffered from self-doubt and decided to sing to overcome this feeling and move on with hope. Many of you can relate to that. Also, I sing some iconic jazz repertoires from influential heroes as a breezy tribute to them, including Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Charles Mingus, and more.
As an artist, I am deeply grateful for your support. I strive to create music that transcends cultural and generational boundaries, blending traditional Jazz with a modern approach for our diverse and vibrant audience.

Galati is the moniker of Roberto Galati, a multi-instrumentalist whose musical focus centers on exploring the nuanced sounds of the electric guitar. Hailing from Italy and growing up between Padua and Trieste, he developed his musical sensibilities amidst the rugged terrain of the Karst Plateau. His artistic journey, spanning over more than fifteen years, draws inspiration from the icy expanses of Ambient and the abstractions of Post-Rock. Galati’s discography is rich and diverse, comprising numerous solo releases and collaborative projects with fellow musicians. The third volume in the series of José Antonio Bottiroli’s complete solo piano music reflects once again his immersion in late Romanticism allied to the resources of impressionism. Although these world premiere recordings focus on Bottiroli’s elegiacal works – laments in tribute to the memory of his loved ones – they also include pieces with the free musical structure of a ‘fantasy’ and those with the more rigorous demarcation of theme and variation. In the Mircrofilms he even offers us imaginary cinematic pieces. Fabio Banegas is not only Bottiroli’s protégé but has also catalogued the composer’s complete works.

Donald Glover has shared a Childish Gambino album that he describes as “the finished version of 3.15.20, the album I put out 4 years ago.” It’s called Atavista and it’s out now. The 11-track record includes the new song “Little Foot Big Foot” featuring Young Nudy, which also comes with a black-and-white music video directed by his longtime collaborator Hiro Murai and stars Quinta Brunson, Monyett Crump, Rob Bynes, and others.
Glover released his most recent Gambino album, 3.15.20, in 2020. He originally uploaded an unfinished studio album to the website donaldgloverpresents.com before taking it down, and it included a number of songs that are similar, if not the same, to those that appear on Atavista. When it reappeared on streaming services a week later, it was under the name 3.15.20 with new song titles and guest appearances by Ariana Grande, Kadhja Bonet, 21 Savage, and Ink, among others.
As Glover notes in his statement, most of the songs on Atavista are polished versions of those same songs. He also adds, “There’s a special vinyl coming soon w/ visuals for each song. The all new childish gambino album comes out in the summer.”
Since dropping 3.15.20, Glover has worked on a number of film and television projects: his acclaimed FX series Atlanta concluded, he executive produced the Prime Video series Swarm in 2022, his remake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Maya Erskine dropped this year, and he’s been tapped to develop his upcoming Disney+ series Lando into a feature film.

It is a meditation on earth-time in relation to the cosmic, the lyrics a commentary on big-picture themes such as personal and collective revolution, dystopias, greed, love and human connection. Andrew Neil Hayes is both a saxophonist and a performer. Discouraged by the music academy, the Briton chose to study Fine Arts at university, which continues to fuel his musical approach. Uninterested in the formal learning of music, Hayes wished to “break the celestial boundaries and reach a new realm of musical potential”. He performs regularly throughout Europe with his projects Run Logan Run, The LBJBs and Tezeta. In 2019, the duo Run Logan Run won the Montreux Jazz Talent Award in the Band category.

Singer and songwriter Michael Marquart returns under the creative moniker A Bad Think. The project’s 12th studio album Cottonwood intrigues in both title and artwork, and the storytelling plus the engaging fusion of Folk, Americana and Rock consistently maintains that appeal.
Cottonwood quickly became an enchanting pleasure to listen to at volume, and admittedly took more than a couple of run throughs to write up, but it was worth that commitment to the cause.
Ten original tracks create the new album, and the opener 10k Hours swiftly brings back memories of the pristine and immersive design of A Bad Think. Michael has a clear professionalism at the helm, allowing the evocative depth of this combination of organic guitars, drums and bass to instantly surround you.
To then weave in that raspy, breathy and humble vocal adds another piece of the puzzle, and to then consider the story and sentiments – the whole thing is finished off beautifully.

George Harrison’s legendary record label Dark Horse Records releases a brand new remaster of English two-man vocal group Splinter’s 1974 debut The Place I Love. It was the first album released by the Dark Horse label, and was produced by Harrison himself.
Recording sessions took place at Harrison’s Friar Park home studio in Oxfordshire and featured extensive musical contributions from Harrison, on guitar, keyboards and other instruments, as well as participants such as Gary Wright, Billy Preston, Jim Keltner and Alvin Lee. “Costafine Town”, the first single from the album, was a top-twenty hit in the United Kingdom and other countries.
