Michel Corboz besuchte zuerst in Freiburg (Schweiz) das Lehrerseminar bei Pierre Kaelin und studierte dann am dortigen Konservatorium KF Gesang bei Juliette Bise und Musiktheorie bei Aloÿs Fornerod sowie am Institut Ribaupierre in Lausanne Komposition bei Pierre Chatton. 1961 gründete er das Ensemble vocal et instrumental de Lausanne, dessen Leiter er auch war und mit welchem er zahlreiche Konzerte im In- und Ausland gegeben sowie Plattenaufnahmen gemacht hat. Als Dirigent dieser Formation gelang ihm mit Einspielungen der Marienvesper und des Orfeo von Claudio Monteverdi 1965 und 1966 der internationale Durchbruch. Ab 1969 leitete er zusätzlich als Chefdirigent den Chor des Gulbenkian-Orchesters in Lissabon.

Von 1976 bis 2004 lehrte er Chorleitung am Genfer Konservatorium.

Sein Repertoire reichte von Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms über Verdi, Puccini, Fauré, Duruflé bis zu Frank Martin und Arthur Honegger. Mit seinen Ensembles in Lausanne und Lissabon, die er bis 2019 leitete,hinterließ Corboz über 100 Einspielungen, vor allem auf dem Label Erato. Im Juni 2021 gab er ein Abschiedskonzert in Genf.Er starb am 2. September 2021

„We Are Our Ghosts“ hat mich vom ersten Moment an fasziniert, gepackt und dann wieder rausgeschmissen, nur um im nächsten Hördurchgang das gleiche Spielchen von vorne durchzuziehen. Was die Saarbrückener auf ihrem Debütalbum fabrizieren, lässt sich dem Genre Postcore zuordnen, doch haben die Jungs ihrer Musik einen eigenen Stempel förmlich eingebrannt. Es gibt ungewöhnliche Rhythmen, völlig unerwartete Tempowechsel und auch mal disharmonische, ruhige Zwischenspiele. „Komplex“ ist der Begriff, der einem hier schnell in den Sinn kommt und den man kaum widerlegen kann.

After the 1870s war, Parisian musical life was reversed at the detriment of the theatre and to the advantage of the concert with the creation of the National Society of Music, and the “Society of Chamber Music for Wind Instruments”, founded in 1879 by flautist Paul Taffanel. With its creation, this association gave birth to works for small homogeneous ensembles reconnecting with Mozart and Beethoven and located on the edge of chamber music and chamber harmony. A little bit later, Charles Koechlin, then Saint-Saëns, would defend the right for wind instruments to play great sonatas like the piano, the violin and the cello.

The complete edition of 1744’s Dardanus by Rameau did not come out on record until the present release (almost three hours of music) was made in Budapest. Closely linked to the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, György Vashegyi presented the work alongside some unpublished pages, including the poignant “Amour, cruel auteur du feu qui me dévore” which opens Act III, a sumptuous lament sung by the baritone Tassis Christoyannis.

founded in 1761, the year Joseph Haydn entered the service of the Esterházy family, for which he would remain for more than thirty years, Symphonies No. 6, 7 and 8 form a unique trilogy in the history of music and are, according to musicologist Marc Vignal, Haydn’s first masterpieces in this field, and probably even for the genre of the symphony in general.

It must be said that Haydn had put all his science and know-how into it, at the time when he was still on trial with the prince, with an overwhelming specification that would give nightmares to all musicians today. In these three jewels of a concise and virtuoso writing, Haydn distributes solos to all the musicians of the orchestra, including the double bass and the bassoon, who are not accustomed to this kind of exercise. It is a festival of sound garlands, as found in the ancient Baroque “concerto grosso”, alternating with dark pages of a moving gravity.

The subtitles, the only ones given by Haydn himself to his symphonies, ” le Matin “, ” le Midi “, ” Le Soir “, were suggested to him and even commissioned by prince Paul Anton to describe an allegory of the “hours of the day” and, above all, of the three ages of life.

The conductor György Vashegyi and his ensembles, the Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir, are fluent in various fields of baroque and classical music, with a particular predilection for French baroque opera. But one of their favourite lines of work is Lutheran sacred music, and a good example of this is this beautiful work, “Wer ist der, so von Edom kömmt”, a period pasticcio with pieces by various composers. Graun (a composer at the court of Frederick II who was greatly admired by his contemporary colleagues), rubs shoulders here with Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as with a mysterious unknown, who wrote several of the most impressive passages in the work.
