Willie’s got this way of wrapping his horn next to the alto of Patrick Cornelius – as the pair move things past conventional hardbop, maybe in the way that Hank Mobley or Lee Morgan were doing at Blue Note near the end of the 60s, but with a more conventional vibe as well – one that picks up plenty of energy from the rest of the group – Jon Davis on piano, Adi Meyerson on bass, and Ej Strickland on drums! There’s a soaring, soulful quality to the whole thing that’s wonderful – a shining moment from a leader we’ll be watching in years to come – served up on titles that include “Keep Talking”, “Azar”, “Tina’s Dream”, “St Upton Hin”, and “Cries”, and “The Strength Of Those Who Bear The Burden”.

Warren Zeiders is putting his heart on his sleeve and pouring his life story into his new Warner Records debut album, Pretty Little Poison, out Aug. 25.

The 14-track album was produced by Bart Butler, Ryan Gore and Ross Copperman, and is peppered with a multitude of Zeider’s different influences. “Tell Me Like It Is” from the new project is available now.

Pretty Little Poison includes “God Only Knows”and “Comin’ Down High,” southern rock anthems perfect for summer, while “Painkiller” and “Love’s A Leaving” explore the darkness of outlaw country. “West Texas Weather” and “Some Whiskey” showcase his vocals with their bright choruses, while “Pretty Little Poison,” the album’s lead single, pairs dusty western textures with a radio-ready chorus. The track “Inside Your Head” was penned by Chris Stapleton, and other writers contributing to the project include Eric Paslay, Randy Montana, Ryan Beaver, Lee Thomas Miller, Benjy Davis and Austin Taylor Smith, among others.

Jaguar II is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Victoria Monét, released on August 25, 2023 via Lovett Music and RCA Records. The second and final installment of Monét’s Jaguar series, the album was supported by three singles; “Smoke” with Lucky Daye, “Party Girls” with Buju Banton, and “On My Mama”. Around the release of the first Jaguar installment, Monét originally intended the Jaguar series to be a trilogy of EPs, which would have eventually came together to form her debut studio album. However, due to Jaguar II being delayed further than expected, the series was eventually reduced to only two projects.

Jaguar II received critical acclaim from contemporary music critics. At Metacritic, a website that aggregates reviews of music albums, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 86, based on 7 reviews, indicating “universal acclaim”.

Jaguar is an extended play by American singer-songwriter Victoria Monét, released on August 7, 2020 via Tribe Records and Platoon LTD. Stylistically an R&B project, with elements of funk and disco music, the EP was supported by four singles; “Ass Like That”, “Moment”, “Dive”, and “Experience” with Khalid and SG Lewis. A short film for the project was released on July 28, 2020. Monét initially intended Jaguar to be a trilogy of EPs. However, as the second installment experienced a severe delay, the series was eventually reduced to only two parts, with Jaguar II now being her debut studio album. Upon release, Jaguar received widespread acclaim from music critics, many of whom praised its musical direction and lyricism. The project was ranked in year-end lists by many publications.

Vetle Skåli is a guitarist, composer and bandleader, based in Oslo, Norway. Vetle is currently active in several bands including TOG, Bjark and his own bands Skaali Quartet and Skaali Quintet. With Skaali Quartet, Vetle is releasing his debut album, Headed For Something, in september of 2023 on AMP Music And Records.

The music on Headed For Something is characterized by its distinctive tunes which are made up of strong melodies, harmonically rich chord-progressions, intricate forms and energetic improvisations. The unique blend of guitar and vibraphone during the composition’s melodies are one of the key features of the quartet’s sound which are backed up beautifully by Bendik’s syncopated bass lines and Steinar’s light and swingin’ touch on the drums.
