In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Taylor Swift released Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions to the Disney Plus streaming platform. The singer announced the documentary-concert film abruptly on Tuesday, posting a trailer that teased a behind-the-scenes look at her eighth album Folklore as well as intimate studio performances at Long Pond Studio, where the album was first recorded.

Taylor Swift provided fans with the ultimate surprise last month, when she dropped her eight studio album Folklore.

And the 30-year-old revealed to her Instagram followers that ‘in [her] head, the songs on folklore fit together in different groups and ‘chapters’ – based on how they fit together thematically.’

‘I want to share the first one today. Here’s ‘folklore: the escapism chapter” wrote Swift, who published the ‘chapter’ to numerous music streaming platforms on Thursday.

Taylor Swift has reminded fans on Tuesday that the deluxe editions of Folklore feature the bonus song, “The Lakes” which is now available on streaming platforms. You can check the track out below.

The sparse, pastoral song was written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff and it’s full of pointed lyrics delivered over acoustic guitar and elegant strings.

That’s essentially what Taylor Swift has done on “Folklore,” her most introspective and emotionally raw album yet. The 10-time Grammy winner, who is known for her meticulously orchestrated album rollouts, broke from tradition and surprise-announced “Folklore” on Thursday, less than 24 hours before its Friday release.

After embracing her pop side on her past three albums, including last year’s “Lover,” the former country star is switching up her sound once again. This time, she’s taking a page from some of her songwriting heroes including Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King. While plenty of pop luminaries such as Justin Timberlake (“Man of the Woods”) and Lady Gaga (“Joanne”) have taken detours into stripped-down folk/soft rock, none have made the transition as seamlessly as Swift, who reminds us once again that she’s the most gifted songwriter in music today.

The record-breaking and award-winning artist has taken to Instagram on May 13, to share a story, promoting her new release; another chapter from her version of album ‘Fearless’, titled ‘Halfway Out The Door Chapter’.

Posting the official poster of her latest release, Taylor captions it as, “Next Chapter is the Halfway Out The Door Chapter”.

The promotional picture features Taylor, all glammed in a purple shimmer outfit, in her signature red lips and blonde curls, posing by the piano while playing on it and a mic close by.

The latest album of the singer’s own version, comprises of six hit tracks, all of her very own version as well.

These singles include ‘Mr.Perfectly Fine’, ‘Forever & Always’, ‘White Horse’, ‘You’re Not Sorry’, ‘Breathe’, also featuring Colbie Caillat and ‘The Other Side Of The Door.’

Besides Taylor, the album is co-produced by Christopher Rowe and Jack Antonoff while the songs have been penned by Taylor, Colbie and Liz Rose.

Background vocals have been rendered by Colbie, Jack Antonoff, Mike Meadows and Paul Sidoti and the album has been published under the ‘Republic Records’ label.

There’s more where folklore came from. After the surprise release of her eighth studio album in July, Taylor Swift again announced a new record on short notice – in this case, evermore, on the eve of its Dec. 11 midnight release.

On social media, Swift referred to the album as folklore’s sister record. “To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs,” she wrote. And though fans have long referred to each of the star’s album cycles as eras, Swift says not so fast this time around.

An album produced by Aaron Dessner of the National, on which she performs with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. With no pop bangers, no body-built beats, it’s the perfect folk counterpoint, carried by understated instrumentation mixing piano, acoustic guitar, mellotron, mandolin and slide guitar. Barely five months later, Evermore has all the hallmarks of the sequel to Folklore: it might even be its twin. Especially since Bon Iver and the National are still there. The Haim sisters and Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons have joined the ranks of these classy guests. Taylor Swift keeps her folk-pop troubadour costume on, and here becomes more introspective than ever. Her songs offer a precise fusion of real facts and improbable daydreams. Obviously, Folklore’s element of surprise is no longer on the agenda. But that doesn’t keep the star from coming out with strong lyrics about fame (Gold Rush and Dorothea), separation (Happiness) or the twilight of love (Tolerate It). She says she spent 2020 writing, writing, writing, and her pen clearly got a workout. Not all of her songs are of the same calibre, and Folklore remains superior overall. But taken as a whole, all of these 2020 recordings have tipped her over into another world. The fascinating little craft business that Taylor Swift is running here has shaken up the pop canon to make a sound that’s even more personal and universal than ever.
