Currently based in Los Angeles, Laurel Halo has spent over a decade stepping into different towns and cities for a moment or more, to the point where everywhere almost became nowhere. Atlas, the debut release on her new imprint Awe, is an attempt to put that feeling to music. Using both electronic and acoustic instrumentation, Halo has created a potent set of sensual ambient jazz collages, comprised of orchestral clouds, shades of modal harmony, hidden sonic details, and detuned, hallucinatory textures. Queen Kylie Minogue’s 2020 album, the bluntly titled Disco, was brilliantly lit by the glow of the disco ball. This time around, she’s bringing an electro-pop strobe to the dance floor —and, at 55, proving age really doesn’t mean anything. While Madonna has been spinning fruitlessly in search of reinvention, Minogue just keeps nailing trends and staying refreshingly relevant. “Padam Padam”—the onomatopoeic sound of a heartbeat—lives in a metallic echo chamber, carefully curated by producer Lostboy and decorated with an infectious snake-charmer chorus. “I’ll be in your head all weekend,” Minogue sings prophetically. “Tension” goes deep with ’90s house keyboards and beats, and a robotic effect for Mingoue’s sexy come-on, directing exactly how she wants to be handled by a lover—”Oh, my god/ Touch me right there/ Almost there/ touch me right there”—while also also making it clear she is completely in control: “I’m a star babe-babe-babe/ Do this all day-day-day/ Cool like sorbet-bet-bet.” She works all her vocal tricks on tropical-vibe “One More Time”: cooing, showing powerhouse strength, effortlessly hitting the high notes, sassing and whooping and sweating it. (Even though it’s not a direct tribute, you can’t help but be reminded by Daft Punk’s monster hit of the same name.) “Green Light” is cool-breeze cafe pop with smooooooth jazz sax. “Things We Do for Love” delivers an energetic burst of euphoria with a shiny soap bubble of a bridge. “You Still Get Me High” fronts like a prom ballad before erupting into an emo-beat thriller, with wailing sax upping the adrenaline; it’s like Kylie x Bleachers, and it’s fun. “Hands” finds Minogue casually rapping and delighting in ’90s girl-group R&B. “Vegas High” captures that city’s cut-loose party vibe and is obviously a tie-in for her residency at the Venetian, which begins November 2023. But she makes up for that bit of cheesiness with “10 Out of 10,” a goofy, giddy lark of a collaboration with Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens that delivers a Pet Shop Boys-style droll chorus: “Body, 10/ Touch, 10 / Energy, 10.” Kylie: 10.

On this concert film we have tried to cover a good selection from Pink Floyd’s oeuvre, performed with our newly redesigned light show. However there’s so much that Pink Floyd wrote and many of their songs are simply so long that we can only present a selection of their total output. We hope that our choice includes much of their very best work. Thinking of ways to present the music the show has evolved over the years – from the choice and creation of visual projections, sometimes touching on more up to date political events which we believed to be in keeping with some of the Pink Floyd themes found in their work to the complex task of creating a special effects light and laser show working with some very talented and able individuals in the field who have contributed their skills and ideas to develop the show.

The concert was filmed progressively over our entire ‘Best of the Best’ tour in the spring of 2016 in Germany but the bulk of the material was filmed in the last week of the tour, playing in many great venues including the famous Festhalle in Frankfurt, a venue that Pink Floyd themselves performed ‘Animals’. Keen eyed viewers may detect slight differences in the various takes but overall a cinematic approach was taken to produce a film of a concert which we hope will give much enjoyment to the viewer and listener, a show that is the culmination of nearly 30 years of continuous touring on the road.

The Moody Blues classic 1967 album Days Of Future Passed is regarded as one of the foundation stones of the progressive rock genre. In 2017, the band headed out on the album’s 50th Anniversary Tour including the wonderful show captured at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts in Toronto accompanied by a full orchestra. The concert begins with the band by themselves performing a selection of classic Moody Blues tracks before they are joined by the orchestra to perform Days Of Future Passed in its entirety plus a couple of fantastic encore tracks. This is without doubt the definitive live version of this much loved album and will be treasured by fans of The Moody Blues for years to come.

The Monkees’ first album was a huge success, following on the number one single “Last Train to Clarksville.” The Monkees spent 78 weeks on the Billboard chart including an astounding 13 weeks at number one. The record wasn’t only a commercial juggernaut, it also stands as one of the great debuts of all time, and while the record and the group have faced criticism from rock purists through the ages, it stands the test of time perfectly well, sounding as alive and as much fun 40 years later. Prefabricated? Yes. After a fast buck? Yes. Exhilarating? Yes! Fab? Definitely! The music may have been created by studio cats instead of the band themselves but the pros weren’t merely phoning it in. Listen to the aggressive guitars on “Saturday’s Child,” the raw romp of “Tomorrow’s Gonna Be Another Day,” or the cascading wall of guitars and fiddles on “Sweet Young Thing,” and you know they weren’t just padding their bank accounts. They were playing some real rock & roll and you can credit the producers for that. Producers Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart aren’t craftsmen on the level of Phil Spector (who was actually approached to produce the band but probably laughed the Monkees’ team right out the door), but they knew how to craft razor-sharp and exciting pop tunes with lots of spark, soul, and the occasional psychedelic touch.

Fans of the iconic pop-rock group The Monkees are in for a real treat. On April 3, they will be releasing “The Mike & Micky Show Live” album.

This live collection by Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith will be available in CD and digital copies, and it will be comprised of 24 tracks, which will span the entire Monkees catalog (in their 50-year musical career).

On February 23, as Digital Journal reported, he performed a solo concert at My Father’s Place in Roslyn on Long Island, which was well-received; moreover, Dolenz sang several Monkees classics in his set.

In April of 2020, Dolenz and Nesmith will be touring and their show is called “An Evening with The Monkees.”
