Introduced to the world ten years ago, Emeli Sandé MBE has gone on to become an icon of British singer-songwriting: emotional, honest and prolific in a way that establishes her as an artist with a heart for pop sensibility.

This latest pop record harks back to 2012, when Emeli had her first breakthrough hit. “How Were We To Know” is Emeli’s second independent album released through Chrysalis Records. “There was a lot I wanted to say about myself, and I hope people can understand me on a deeper level through the lyrics.” The 11 tracks on “How Were We To Know” explore intimate encounters with love in all its forms, along with the risk required to pursue it. “Once you’ve been hurt, it’s very hard to pick up the pieces and allow yourself to be vulnerable,” Sandé says. “I think these songs are about the bravery of love, of loving others, but also loving yourself. These songs were pieces of a puzzle that I needed to put together, and now it feels like it’s the right time to share them.” The album was produced by Jonny Coffer (Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus), Jim Jonsin (ASAP Rocky, Usher, Eminem), DI Genius (Drake, Raye, Sean Paul), Rxwntree, Chris Loco and Mac & Phil.

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44,1 kHz | Time – 02:18:39 minutes | 1,26 GB | Genre: Classical
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Paladino Music

The selection of works presented on this album shows the curiosity with which David Popper must have absorbed music of all periods, whether in concert, in domestic music-making, or by reading scores. Here we find orchestral works, songs, oratorio and opera arias, piano music, and chamber works, and the chronological classification ranges from the early Baroque to Popper’s contemporaries Wagner and Tchaikovsky. Popper’s modesty and knowledge of his strengths, especially about his own instrument, induced him to compose almost entirely for the cello. Besides reflecting the taste of the day, his music is note worthy for its innate sensitivity, a dexterous command of orchestration, and a savory sense of humor.

“Every man has two deaths, when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name” – Ernest Hemmingway. Evoking similarities to Hemmingway’s musings on the impact we as individuals can have on those around us, Danish trio Human Being Human’s second record strives to celebrate the joy that comes with the fragility of life instead of mourning loss and the notion of fading into obscurity. ‘Disappearance’ is set to release on November 10th on April Records.

Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Pompeii Records

Hadsel is the first new full-length record since Beirut’s 2019 release, “Gallipoli,” and the first on Zach Condon’s own label, Pompeii Records. Recorded in the Norwegian island of Hadsel shortly after a physical and mental break forced Condon to cancel his 2019 tour, Condon was looking for a place to recover after being left in a state of shock and self-doubt. Working in isolation, Condon explains, “I was lost in a trance, stumbling blindly through my own mental collapse that I had been pushing aside since I was a teenager. It came and rang me like a bell. I was left agonising many things past and present while the beauty of the nature, the northern lights and fearsome storms played an awesome show around me. The few hours of light would expose the unfathomable beauty of the mountains and the fjords, and the hours- long twilights would fill me with subdued excitement. I’d like to believe that scenery is somehow present in the music. The resulting is collection of songs beautifully reflect that vulnerability, sense of self-determination and belief that after collapse, one can learn to manage on their own again.

“‘When the world stoops around us, when the structures of a civilization are shattered, it is a good thing to revert to what in history does not stoop but, on the contrary, summons up courage, gathers the parted ones, makes peace without hurting.’ Thus speaks Camus on February 2nd, 1956, paying tribute to Mozart on the bicentennial of his birth. ‘When one has really listened to this song, one has traveled all over the world and had a look at all the beings.’ In 2023 more than ever, this song is vital, ‘Such as into Himself at last eternity’ will not change him.” – Anne Queffélec

Vivaldi was already a renowned opera composer in Venice and throughout Italy, but he gained exceptional notoriety throughout Europe when the concerti constituting his Quattro Stagioni were published in Amsterdam. These theme concertos, which embraced the imagination of Arcimboldo, gained top billing in private and public concerts. But their composition for solo violin has impressive virtuosity and expression: Stefan Plewniak becomes both unchained and sensual in them, not giving the Orchestre de l’Opera Royal any opportunity for respite in intensely sounding out these seasons that are so emblematic of Baroque Europe!
