In the summer of 2016, guitar virtuoso Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. Beck set the stage ablaze with incredible live versions of “For Your Love”, “Beck’s Bolero”, “’Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”, “Big Block”, “Over Under Sideways Down”, “A Day In The Life”, “Blue Wind”, and more. The night also included a legendary list of special guests including Steven Tyler, Billy F. Gibbons, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, Jimmy Hall and the great Buddy Guy.

Over the course of Beck’s illustrious 50-year career, the trailblazing guitarist has earned many accolades. He’s been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – twice!  First, as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and then again, as a solo artist in 2009. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and he has earned a total of 8 Grammy Awards during his long career. From his time with The Yardbirds, to the Jeff Beck Group and his solo career, Jeff Beck’s sound and stylistic exploration has mesmerized fans and critics worldwide. This concert captures his musical journey, with a set list spanning from his first Yardbirds’ recordings to recent tracks from 2016’s Loud Hailer. As the evening progressed, Beck was joined onstage by those legendary peers. The show climaxed with all guests delivering a stirring encore performance of “Purple Rain” in tribute to Prince, who had passed away a few months before the concert.

In November of 2007, legendary guitarist Jeff Beck took on the stage of London’s Ronnie Scott’s, a notorious jazz club with a rich history. Unfortunately, given the size of the venue, only a few were lucky enough to see him and his band – Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Jason Rebello (keyboards) and Tal Wilkenfeld (bass) – perform.

This Blu-ray disc offers twenty one songs that were played by Beck and his band throughout the course of the concert. They cover a variety of genres including rock, jazz, blues, fusion, and even rockabilly. To the delight of the audience, during a few of the songs, Beck was also joined by Joss Stone, Imogen Heap as well as his former Yardbird’s bandmate Eric Clapton

What truly impresses in this show is the musical versatility Beck and his band showcase. They easily skip through a number of different genres that have been a key part of their music throughout the years (interestingly enough, even though Beck has been performing with Vinnie Colaiuta and Jason Robello for only a few years now, they very much sound as if they have been together for a very, very long time). Unsurprisingly, from the moody Pink Floyd-esque Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers (with a fantastic solo by Tal Wilkenfeld) to the to the funky Led Boots, to the classic People Get Ready with Joss Stone , to the terrific new arrangement of Blnaket with Imogen Heap, to the outstanding Little Brown Bird and You Need Love with Eric Clapton, this concert offers a little bit of everything for everyone.

Jeff Beck is undeniably one of the world s greatest guitar players. Technically brilliant, he is renowned for pushing musical boundaries and has excelled across many different genres from rock and jazz to pop and blues. These Japanese dates were the first to feature Jeff Beck s new backing band of Jonathan Joseph (drums), Nicolas Meier (guitars) and Rhonda Smith (bass) and the setlist includes some material from his new, as yet unreleased, studio album. The CBS network broadcast the show live from Madison Square Garden in New York City.[2] It was the first time since 2003 that the ceremony was held outside Los Angeles (where the Staples Center had been the home of the Grammys since 2004). James Corden returned as host.

The ceremony recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which ran from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017. The nominations were announced on November 28, 2017. The “pre-telecast” ceremony (officially named The Premiere Ceremony) was be held on the same day prior to the main ceremony.

The show was moved to January to avoid competing with the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, as was the case in 2010 and 2014. Viewership for the ceremony dropped 24% compared to the previous year, obtaining the smallest audience in the show’s history in the key demographic.
