A year ago Abbey Road celebrated its 90th anniversary. On this occasion, a festival had been organized and many artists invited. Among them, Portico Quartet, who had then taken advantage of the event to record a concert film of their album Terrain. The band then formed as an ensemble, alongside a string quartet, and plays a more extended version of the album. This exercise and this new configuration offered them the opportunity to explore their own creation in more depth and to give much more textures to their compositions.

Alta Sherral “Allee” Willis (November 10, 1947 – December 24, 2019) was an American songwriter, multi-media artist, collector, and art director. Willis co-wrote hit songs including “September” and “Boogie Wonderland” by Earth, Wind & Fire. She also co-wrote the song “What Have I Done to Deserve This?”, a number 2 hit in both the UK (in 1987) and U.S. (in 1988) for Pet Shop Boys featuring Dusty Springfield. She won two Grammy Awards for Beverly Hills Cop and The Color Purple, the latter of which was also nominated for a Tony Award, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for “I’ll Be There for You”, which was used as the theme song for the sitcom Friends. Her compositions sold over 60 million records and she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018 as the only woman to be inducted that year.

To confuse parts for the whole is inevitable with Palm. On their latest effort, Nicks and Grazes, Palm embrace discordance to dazzling effect. “We wanted to reconcile two potentially opposing aesthetics,” Kasra Kurt of the band says. “To capture the spontaneous, free energy of our live shows while integrating elements from the traditionally gridded palette of electronic music.” In order to avoid what Kurt refers to as “Palm goes electro,” the musicians spent years educating themselves on the ins and outs of production by learning Ableton while also experimenting with “the percussive, textural, and gestural potential” of their instruments. To this end, the band continued the age-old tradition of instrument-preparation, augmenting guitars with drumsticks, metal rods and, at the suggestion of Charles Bullen (This Heat, Lifetones), coiling rubber-coated gardening wire around the strings. The unruliness of the prepared guitar on songs like “Mirror Mirror” and “Eager Copy” contrasts with the steadfast reproducibility of the album’s electronic elements.

The tour de force of horn-corps (PHC), the Bavarian lower main is a group of hunting musical crazy Amateur musicians. The Ensemble has been able to demonstrate its skills several times at prestigious competitions. After 2016, the PHC was runner-up of the Bavarian hunting association in 2018 and achieved an excellent 5th place at the German hunting association in Kranichstein (Darmstadt) in 2019. “Just Between You and Me” is Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton’s first duet album, released in January 1968, shortly after Parton joined Wagoner’s band and became a regular on his weekly television show. The album’s single was a cover of Tom Paxton’s “The Last Thing on My Mind”; the album and the single reached the top ten on the country albums and singles charts, respectively. The title song, written by Jack Clement, had been a top-ten hit for Charley Pride earlier in 1967. Parton originally wrote “Put it Off Until Tomorrow” for artist Bill Phillips.
