It all goes back to year 1965. Spencer Davis Group was recording a single for the label Phillips Germany after having released its number one hit “Keep on Running”. Alongside the guitarist and a former German teacher Spencer Davis, Steve Winwood and his older brother Muff also the upcoming drummer Pete York was a member of the band. The producer of the session was Siggi Loch. “We’ve been friends ever since”, Pete York, who turned 70 in August, reminisces. “Maybe it is Siggi’s birthday present that I got the chance to release this album on ACT”.

Beethoven opened the new century with the publication of his first symphony, but also with that of other important works, such as four piano sonatas (Opp. 26, 27, and 28) and two sonatas for piano and violin – in A Minor, Op. 23, and F Major, Op. 24. Originally, the two sonatas were published in 1801 as a set, under the opus number 23. But something as trivial as their having been mistakenly printed on different-size paper in their second reprint a year later compelled the publisher (and Beethoven) to present them as two distinct works, each with its own opus number – probably to save both face and money. Unlike its companion in F major, the Sonata Op. 23 is a rather stark work, remaining in the darkness of minor keys, and often in a contained, two-voice writing in the piano part. Success was granted to Op. 23, however, after a rather negative response to Beethoven’s three earlier works in the genre, published in 1798 as Op. 12.

It Was 50 Years Ago Today are live recordings taken from Sveriges Radio and NRK’s archives.
This to mark that in 2022 it is 50 years since Popol Ace launched their first album Popol Vuh, – a release that was honored with Norway’s first Grammy award! From ups and downs where Polydor International declines on an offer of a collaboration between Frank Zappa and Popol Ace, but says yes to Queens studio technician Mike Stone. From dirty and smelly rehearsal rooms in London to dream conditions in Ibiza and to a farm in Velindre in Wales where Genesis had recorded the Lamb. Then to the recording of the album Stolen from Time in an acclaimed studio outside Paris where Elton John had recorded many of his hits. Via tours, concerts, TV and radio appearances in Scandinavia and out in Europe and back again.
It was 50 years ago today celebrates the band’s life and legacy with this 3LP box release and digital release on all streaming services as a reminder of what an astonishing band Popol Ace was!

A magical proposition from the start, PORTRAIT somehow tapped into heavy metal’s unerringly atavistic principles without ever sounding like some self-consciously retro knockoff. Along with WOLF’s “Evil Star” and a handful of others, the Swedes’ self-titled 2008 debut album gave substance and sustenance to the welcome return of old-school clangor in the 21st century, with some much-needed mystique and malevolence thrown in as a bonus. Vocalist Per Lengstedt’s KING DIAMOND-saluting shriek was simply the blood-spattered icing on the cake.

Pokey LaFarge’s anticipated album Manic Revelations was recorded in his hometown of St. Louis and co-produced with his band the Southside Collective and Tony Hoffer. The album’s lead track, the ripped-from-the-headlines Riot In The Streets, deals with the subject of racial tension and police violence in St. Louis.
“It is a tough thing to write about, but as a citizen of St. Louis and as an artist, I had to say something. Hopefully this song does more good than bad and, ultimately, gets the dialogue started. Although it’s also important to not forget the peaceful protests and those that spread the message of love in the pursuit of justice and equality, this particular song is about people being marginalized and brought to the brink. It was only a matter of time before they fight back. I hope you feel that tension in the song, even from the first bass click.”

The In a World Like This Tour (also known as the 20th Anniversary Tour) is the tenth concert tour by American boy band, the Backstreet Boys. Supporting their eighth studio album, In a World Like This, the tour consists of over 140 shows in Asia, North America and Europe. It is the band’s first tour as a quintet in seven years, as band member Kevin Richardson rejoined in 2012. The tour broke record in China, when over 1,000 tickets were sold within one minute in Guangzhou on June 8, 2013. It has become one of the biggest tours in the group’s tenure.
News of the tour was first released in January 2013, with stops planned for China (known as the 20th Anniversary Tour). Since the initial announcement, the band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and released the trailer for their upcoming documentary. In May 2013, band member Nick Carter called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to state the band were planning a North American tour, alongside their album release. The band officially announced the tour on Good Morning America. According to band member A. J. McLean, the concerts will have a theatrical feel, performed as a mini-movie. They will perform their notable songs and tracks from their new album. Fatima Robinson and Rich+Tone will serve as choreographers.
On March 14, 2014, Backstreet Boys appeared via satellite on Good Morning America from Norway, to announce the second North American leg. Avril Lavigne will be the opening act for the US date

Guitarist Pablo Márquez celebrates the work of a remarkable figure in Argentinean music: Gustavo “Cuchi” Leguizamón. Leguizamón (1917-2000) was a composer, pianist, guitarist, poet – and also a lawyer and teacher in the city of Salta where Márquez grew up. It was in his teaching capacity that Márquez first encountered him in person: “He was my history teacher at the Collegio Nacional when I was thirteen years old. When I saw Dr Gustavo Leguizamón come into the classroom for the first time, I had no idea that I was in the presence of one of Argentina’s greatest musicians, the composer of famous zambas I’d known and sung since early childhood. Cuchi liked to say that ‘the ultimate accolade for an artist is that people think his work is anonymous’.”

Out of nowhere comes Narthex, one of the most promising band from the Vinlandic Metal scene. This four songs demo should teach you a lesson about who they are, what are they doing and how they do it… Narthex plays a quite unique musical style, mixing Metal and Industrial, with some more than apparent Thrash influences. The opening song, ‘’Impending Doom’’ is an abrasive opus that literally sounds like an army charging into battle. The second song, ‘’Divergence’’, continues in the same vein, although a little bit ‘’smoother’’ in some parts. ‘’Inter’’ is a nice interlude that will allow you to take your breath for a moment, until the epic opus ‘’The Abacist’’ comes in. This is the central point of the demo in my opinion, showing another side of the band at some point, almost as if it was meant to present the band’s style as a whole. And the demo closes with ‘’Phantasm’’, a nice ending that will remind you of their industrial influences.

The ‘Cuckoo Storm’ might never have been, were it not for a social media post Crowley wrote on a wintery late-night walk in a quiet neighbourhood of Dublin during lockdown. Struck by Waterson’s previous album ‘Death Had Quicker Wings Than Love’ (co-written with David A Jaycock), he wanted to mark the moment and pressed ‘send’ into the ether with no way of knowing what would follow. Drawn to his voice and seeing a kindred spirit in his poetic lyrics, Waterson was touched by his message and responded by asking if he would be interested in working together. His answer was a resounding ‘yes.’
‘Cuckoo Storm’ is a deeply compelling album. A serendipitous collaboration that has resulted in a collection of 11 beautifully crafted songs, sung by two voices that are a powerful match. Waterson’s brilliantly distinctive voice is underpinned by Crowley’s rich baritone and together it’s an intoxicating mix.
