Thinking of dreamy, melancholic electronic music with an organic approach Parra for Cuva is one of the names which come to mind immediately. After the strong start of his first single Ordel feat. Kyson & Beau Diako, Parra for Cuva asked uprising producer Rezident to give the song a new twist. Rezident, the project of emerging 21-year-old producer David Roif, demonstrates that electronic music best sustains itself when these two worlds interlace. His remix of Parra for Cuva’s Ordel retains the original meditative feel of the track all the while pumping the pace with driving beats. Dream Reverb: His 2nd single Dream Reverb takes listeners on an exotic escape through the plucks of the ancient Middle Eastern instrument, the hammered dulcimer, played by New York-based musician Max ZT. Rhythmic beats, hushed voice samples and lush synth textures slowly build up the track to a toe-tapping percussive hit that remains gentle and warm throughout.

Just as jazz musicians today use lead sheets (indicating only melody and harmony), so classic musicians once used partimenti – figured or unfired bass lines – in order to learn how to improvise and compose at the harpsichord. This album features for the first time partimenti by one of the most renowned composers of the late eighteenth century, Giovanni Paisiello (1740-1816) – whose «Regole per bene accompagnare il Partimento» was printed 1782 in St. Petersburg as well as by his teacher Francesco Durante.

The album “as if a river were singing…” brings together the most recent orchestral compositions of three younger generation Estonian composers, borrowing its title from the album’s opening piece, Alisson Kruusmaa’s eponymous work. The artists who collaborated on this album regard it as a kind of musical riverbed, with many different streams flowing into it – each with its own journey, its own song. The connecting bridge is the Pärnu City Orchestra and their chief conductor Kaspar Mänd, who commissioned all the recorded works. The pieces were premiered at the Pärnu Concert Hall, the home hall of the orchestra, between 2020 and 2021, and are heard here in their world-premiere recordings.

On ne peut qu’applaudir la formidable initiative portée par le label NoMad Music avec la complicité de l’Orchestre National d’Ile de France : leur nouvelle collection “Solo” propose de mettre en avant les différents talents solistes de la formation francilienne. Après un premier volet très réussi – aussi pédagogue que poétique – consacré au percussionniste Georgy Varbanov, voici que les membres du Paris Urban Quartet nous plongent dans un bain de jouvence avec ces quatre œuvres composées entre 2010 et 2019. A l’écriture, de grands noms de la scène contemporaine française : Camille Pépin, Marc-André Dalbavie, Fabien Cali et Guillaume Connesson. Ces quatre-là avaient en commun de n’avoir jusqu’ici écrit qu’un seul quatuor à cordes. La découverte de ces oeuvres en première impression mondiale donne à entendre un aperçu énergique et coloré de deux générations différentes du circuit contemporain.
