With “Two” guitarist Peter Groesdonk presents his second musical release. The album was created over a longer period of time and is therefore inspired by a wide variety of phases, influences, places and people. Individual stories and emotions are hidden in the individual pieces. With the classical guitar technique as a foundation, the album develops in all directions: the arrangements are made in fingerstyle, with percussive effects, pop and funk inspired elements and a tuned guitar. Groesdonk moves as a matter of course through the sound worlds – whether on the nylon guitar or on steel strings.

Following his 2001 disc of works by Arne Nordheim, Norwegian violinist Peter Herresthal and BIS have collaborated on the project ’A String of Releases’ – recordings of contemporary violin concertos, in several cases written especially for Herresthal. Featured composers so far have been Olav Anton Thommessen, Henrik Hellstenius and Ørjan Matre – all from Norway – as well as Thomas Adès and Per Nørgård. Utterly fearless in his approach to these complex works, Herresthal has received recognition for his recordings, earning a Spellemannprisen (the ‘Norwegian Grammy’) as well as being shortlisted for a Gramophone Award.

Produced & mixed by Johann Scheerer (Faust/Bosnian Rainbows/The Killers) and recorded at his analogue-based studio, Clouds Hill Recordings in Hamburg. Hamburg Demonstrations includes the previously released singles ‘The Whole World Is Our Playground’ and a new recording of the Amy Winehouse tribute ‘Flags From The Old Regime’. The album also features ’Hell To Pay At The Gates Of Heaven’ written after the Paris attacks last November; ‘Kolly Kibber’ inspired by the newspaper man who meets a sticky end at the beginning of ‘Brighton Rock’ and ‘A Spy In The House Of Love’ a title borrowed from the Anaïs Nin novel.

In the past 12 years Peter Gall made a name for himself as masterful meter and composer in various bands, for instance Subtone (including Florian Hoefner, Magnus Schriefl and Matthias Pichler) or with Roberto Di Gioia’s Web Web (including Tony Lakatos). Gall’s drumming can be heard on roughly 30 albums to date, among them his brother Chris’ trio Blume (with Schriefl, Wanja Slavin, Bernhard Meyer), the Rainer Böhm Quartet, Torsten Goods and Enik; furthermore he was engaged by luminaries like Kurt Rosenwinkel or Thomas Quasthoff, only to name a few. Now he presents his first own production, Paradox Dreambox. It doesn’t spring exuberant drumming on the listener, but rather allures with melodious lines and multilayered arrangements, nuanced band interactions and latent energy even in quieter passages.

The music of Grazyna Bacewicz (1909-1969) has been enjoying a revival during the past two decades. Bacewicz was an outstanding figure in 20th-century music, a major Polish composer and a versatile musician.
