What makes ‘Mojo’ special is that it was recorded live in the band’s legendary rehearsal space, ‘The Clubhouse’ in Los Angeles. There are no over-dubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what Tom and the Heartbreakers created live at that time. In 2010, Tom Petty said, ‘With this album, I want to show other people what I hear with the band. ‘Mojo’ is where the band lives when it’s playing for itself’. As for the songs, ‘Mojo’ showcases Rock ‘n’ Roll, to Country, to electric and acoustic Blues, to classic moody ballads. The album features the hit ‘I Should Have Known It’ and fan favourites such as ‘Good Enough’, ‘First Flash of Freedom’, ‘Something Good Coming’ and ‘No Reason to Cry’.

the US by International Anthem in Summer 2022. Burch immersed herself in the label’s creative community and listened to what it gave her, making field recordings and allowing There Is Only Love and Fear to emerge from the collaborations and environments she encountered. Sessions for the album spanned multiple non-traditional recording spaces including a storefront in Bridgeport, Chicago and a canyon in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, with an eminent cast of creative musicians including Ben LaMar Gay, Macie Stewart, Anna Butterss, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Dan Bitney of Tortoise, all of whom Burch met for the first time in the moments before they played. These moments of instant collaboration were then edited, decomposed, and recontextualized by Burch, resulting in a deeply organic, energetic-yet-patient addition to the canon of modern composition.

Boston doesn’t get enough credit as a jazz town, from the days of the Storyville club and Cambridge-based Transition label to the star factory that is Berklee College of Music, the city stands tall against more celebrated places like Chicago and Detroit. One big part of that high level of creative output is Jerry Bergonzi who, for this date, leads his most Bostonian band in recent memory, reuniting with trumpeter pal Phil Grenadier and drummer Luther Gray. Bassist Harvie S came up from New York for the gig and it was he who suggested guitarist Sheryl Bailey for the album. She completes the Boston connection with her position as the Assistant Chair of Berklee’s legendary Guitar Department.

“To work with Jerry and study and perform his music is the definition of a dream come true,” says Bailey who has played with artists ranging from Ken Peplowski to Shingo Okudaira. Here, Bergonzi has convened a fine band for a compelling album, another feather in Boston’s tricorn hat.

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 45:11 minutes | 903 MB | Genre: Soul
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Jagjaguwar

On her expansive new album Water Made Us, Chicago musician and poet Jamila Woods shines anew as she asks the question, what does it mean to fully surrender into love? Across Water Made Us, Jamila embraces new genres, playful melodies, and hypnotizing wordplay, as she wades through the exhilarating tumult of love’s wreckage and refuge. While 2017’s HEAVN saw Jamila celebrating her community within a lineage of Black feminist movement organizing, and 2019’s Legacy! Legacy! reframed her life’s experiences through the storied personas of iconic Black and brown artists, Water Made Us is self-revelatory in an entirely new way, making this her most personal album yet. Made together with LA-based producer McClenney, and boasting features from longtime friends and Chicago natives such as Saba and Peter CottonTale, Water Made Us is a sprawling and intimate portrait of self-reflection, cleverly designed to echo the different stages of a relationship: the early days of easy compromising, flirtatiousness, and fun; the careful negotiation through moments of conflict or hurt; the grieving of something lost; and the tender realization at the end of it all that the person who is gone never really leaves, but stays with you as you find yourself ready to try again, refreshed and reassured.

American trombonist Turk Murphy counts as one of the prime movers in the West Coast resurgence of Dixieland jazz in the late 1930’s; Murphy’s brand of traditional jazz remained popular until his death in 1987. Hs band played concerts and festivals throughout the world, was featured along with Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines and Ella Fitzgerald at the inauguration of New York’s Louis Armstrong Stadium, and played Carnegie Hall. Recorded live at the ‘73 Heidelberg Jazz Festival, the band’s free-flowing, relaxed two-beat feel combines the best of the New Orleans and Chicago styles. The use of tuba instead of bass leans towards Dixie, as does the intricate ensemble play, yet there are also brilliant solo passages, reminiscent of Chicago jazz of the 1920’s. An infectious rendition of King Oliver’s Dr. Jazz, a vintage version of Jelly Roll Morton’s The Pearls, the swinging, down-home feel on St. James Infirmary, and a rambunctious Panama are among the album’s classic gems. Leon Oakley’s cornet and Pete Clute’s piano stand out throughout. Music geared for traditional jazz lovers and those yearning for some ‘good-time’ music – as the audience’s joyous response to band’s play attests…

From scrapes and breaths to something nearing jazz, Daisy and Stein obviously have a deep and wide exchange when together. — Peira Records

Eagle Rock Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray/2CD, as well as vinyl and DVD/2CD, The Rolling Stones: Bridges to Bremen. Street date is June 21.

Bridges to Bremen captures a complete show from the final leg of the Rolling Stones year-long tour in support of their Bridges to Babylon album, which achieved Platinum and Gold status in multiple markets upon the album’s original release in 1997.

Ever the innovators, The Bridges To Babylon Tour was one of firsts – the first time the band went on the road with a permanent, and now infamous, B-stage, and also the first time that fans could vote on the band’s website for a track they wanted to hear at the show – “Memory Motel” in the case of the Bremen fans, making each show on the tour unique.

Opening with “Satisfaction”, a snake-hipped Jagger, sporting a bright yellow shirt & scarf, is a streak of canary-colored lightning, while Keith prowls the stage in a tiger print duster coat. Lisa Fisher accompanies Jagger on vocals for a storming version of “Gimme Shelter”, and Bridges single “Saint of Me” receives a rousing welcome. By Stones standards, Bremen was an intimate show, a 40,000 fan-strong hot ticket, for which the band enthusiastically kicked out 155 minutes of unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll.

This concert film has been meticulously restored from the original masters, and the audio remixed and remastered from the live multitrack recordings. Four tracks from the band’s Soldier Field performances in Chicago are included as bonus features on all physical visual formats.

The release of Bridges To Bremen comes at a busy time for the band – Honk, a brand new Best Of compilation featuring 36 essential Stones tracks from 1971 to 2016’s Blue & Lonesome (with the deluxe also featuring 10 live tracks recorded at stadiums around the world) is released on April 19th by Polydor

Recorded live in January 2020, just before COVID-19 halted performances for the foreseeable, “Instant Opaque Evening” is the second intense slab from Mats Gustafsson, David Grubbs and Rob Mazurek’s Underflow project. It’s clear from the first few notes that these players are familiar with each other, and they make a sublime noise together, jumping from skronky free jazz to noisy electronics to impromptu covers of Grubbs’ songs with bubbly fluidity. It’s not gonna be for everyone but if yr looking for free experimentation, this is a meeting of some of the genre’s contemporary masters.
