Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker releases songs on 4AD. songs were written and recorded in April after Big Thief’s March tour was abruptly cut short due to coronavirus. After returning to the states from Europe, Lenker decamped to a one room cabin in the mountains of western Massachusetts. This recording is 100% analog-analog-analog (AAA). No digital process was used in the production of this sound recording. The album’s stunning artwork are watercolour paintings done by Adrianne’s grandmother, Diane Lee.

Aaron Neville is an American R&B singer and musician. In January 2013, paying tribute to the songs of his youth, Blue Note Records released Neville’s My True Story, a collection of 12 doo-wop tunes, produced by Don Was and Keith Richards, with backing by musicians such as Benmont Tench and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.
Musicians on the album include Keith Richards, Greg Leisz (Beck, Sheryl Crow), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), George G. Receli (Bob Dylan) and Tony Scherr (Bill Frisell, Norah Jones). Neville hand-selected each track on My True Story, which features tunes by Little Anthony and the Imperials (“Tears On My Pillow”), Hank Ballard and the Midnighters (“Work With Me Annie”) and The Drifters (“Money Honey,” “Under The Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment”).

40 years after it’s original release, Tattoo You returns with an all-new 2021 master. Tattoo You is the 16th British and 18th American studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 24 August 1981 by Rolling Stones Records. The album is mostly composed of studio outtakes recorded during the 1970s, and contains one of the band’s most well-known songs, “Start Me Up”, which hit number two on the US Billboard singles charts.
In the wake of the release of Emotional Rescue in 1980, the future of the Rolling Stones seemed in the balance. Sure, they’d survived the wild 1960s and even wilder ’70s, but as the new decade dawned, they were in uncharted territory. No rock and roll band had lasted nearly 20 years. Still, plans were afoot.
With preparations proceeding for a massive tour of the United States at the end of 1981 and another the following year in Europe, a new album was urgently required. But the band’s future was anything but certain. Reflecting on the relationships between the various Stones during the Tattoo You period, Mick says, ‘The difficulty in growing up in a rock and roll band, I think, is that you start with this gang of people and, as anyone knows that’s been in a gang, that gang simply can’t last forever.’
The Stones, however, were determined to carry on. With everyone on a much-needed break after the completion of Emotional Rescue, but with an album owed to the powers that be, the band hit on a novel approach to make it. Chris Kimsey – a veteran of Stones sessions – relates how he knew that some of the band’s outtakes from the 1970s had the potential to be powerful masters. He was tasked with uncovering the best of whatever might be buried in the band’s rich archive.
‘For Tattoo You,’ recalls Ron Wood, ‘we realised that there was a lot of great music that we had recorded in the past that had never been released, particularly from all the material we had amassed during the Some Girls and Emotional Rescue sessions’.

Irishman Rory Gallagher is forever associated with the golden age of British blues-rock. It’s the kind of music that you can enjoy in a pub with a pint of beer in your hand on a rainy afternoon rather than in the glare of a glitzy stadium. After a few years and a couple of albums as the leader of the band Taste, a contemporary of Cream and Led Zeppelin and very much of its time, Gallagher released this first album under his own name. The sound here is still influenced by blues-rock, but it’s less progressive than Taste. It’s a return to the simplicity and elemental power of American blues musicians. The fiery guitar riffs on Sinner Boy sound like an answer to Johnny Winter on the other side of the Atlantic. The band’s sober and sharp playing seems to foreshadow the English pub-rock of the 1970s. The 50th anniversary of this endearing album is celebrated with this remixed re-release of the original record, accompanied by previously unreleased alternative versions. The most biting songs have kept their fangs, and one can enjoy a bit of nostalgia, rediscovering a pair of acoustic folk-blues ballads in which Rory Gallagher dreamed of Dylan’s America. Transatlantic have never been a band to resist a challenge. So it should come as no surprise that for their fifth album ‘The Absolute Universe’, Neal Morse Roine Stolt Pete Trewavas and Mike Portnoy have really gone out to do something a little unusual. “We have actually come up with something unprecedented,” says Portnoy proudly. “We’ve got two versions of this album. There’s a two CD presentation (‘Forevermore’), which is 90 minutes long, and a single one (‘The Breath Of Life’) – that’s 60 minutes. The single CD is NOT an edited version of the double CD. They’re new recordings. What we have done are different approaches to the songs for this! We wrote fresh lyrics and have different people singing on the single CD version tracks as compared to those on the double CD. We revamped the songs to make the two versions different.” For this record, the band have also returned to the concept album format: “What we have is essentially one giant composition, split into chapters. The storyline is about the struggles facing everyone in society today” comments Portnoy. “We didn’t start out with the idea of this being conceptual,” admits Stolt. “The way things work with us is that we have a load of ideas, and these are developed spontaneously when we meet up.
