The Tomb of Couperin. Ravel completed the composition of Le Tombeau de Couperin, a cycle dedicated to the piano, in November 1917. This tribute to eighteenth-century French music includes six parts: Prelude, Fugue, Forlane, Rigaudon, Minuet and Toccata. At the origin of this Tomb (Ravel drew with his hand a funeral urn which is printed on the cover page of the original edition), the musician pays tribute to the fallen during the war. Moreover, it evokes the refinement of French classicism, that of Rameau and the Couperins. Ravel’s aim is therefore to magnify the Great Century that he revered.

Sorceress was a band that existed from 2008-2011 in Salem, Oregon, inspired by the mid-2000’s stoner-rock/doom-metal explosion. Similarly, Sorceress wrote and recorded only one full-length album, Beneath the Mountain, in 2009, which was effectively the last thing we did as a band. Shortly after the release of the album, I moved to Germany and the band went on hiatus.

We are all aware that Deutsche Gramophone is releasing an album comprising exactly the same works performed by Lang Lang. Actually it is an interesting phenomenon that two young Chinese artists record the same works and we hope and expect that the media will compare both albums.
