As music director in his church congregation – the Freie evangelische Gemeinde Bonn – Johannes Schmidt organizes church services musically (such as the ZDF television service ) and promotes young up-and-coming musicians and bands.

He shares his concern to make the treasures of timeless melodies and meaningful song texts newly experienceable with his friend, the arranger, composer and pianist Christian Schnarr; for him he co-produced Schnarr’s film-musical project “Holywood” with the German Pops Orchestra in 2018. Actually, the recordings for pianist Johannes Schmidt’s album “Abendlieder beflügelt” were only meant as a nice memory and to help his just-born son Jonathan fall asleep

The selected pieces radiate a perpetual calm and are in essence over generations known songs and folk songs , which everyone has heard and sung himself. The songs and children’s songs such as “The moon has risen”, “Evening silence everywhere” or “Lalelu ” are the leitmotifs over which Johannes Schmidt improvises in a skillful and virtuoso manner.
