Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Toccata Classics
The three works by the Amsterdam-born Henriëtte Bosmans (1895–1952) in this album all date from her early to mid-twenties. The Violin Sonata and Piano Trio are substantial pieces, both animated by the passion of youth – and, given their quality, it is astounding that they should be receiving their first recordings here. At this stage in her life Bosmans was still writing in an expansive, Romantic style, although echoes of French Impressionism, Spain and the Middle East can often be heard – and from time to time the Violin Sonata nods to Bach and Reger.

The multi-hyphenate Viennese singer/songwriter Sofie Royer, fka Sofie, returns with her second album Harlequin for Stones Throw, the follow up to her well received debut album Cult Survivor in 2020.
Harlequin journeys between Sofie’s adolescence and adulthood, blending her nostalgia for early aughts reality television and American mall punk subculture with her passion for medieval performance, European cabaret, and Vienna’s ballet and opera history.
For her new record, Sofie adopts the visual aesthetic and gestures of the court jester, clown and cabaret artist, from the album artwork through to her live performances.
She previously released her compilation Sofie’s SOS Tape in 2016, featuring artists including Mndsgn and Charlotte dos Santos. Sofie was also an original member of Boiler Room and an NTS Resident DJ.

London once again features as a prominent character on Sorry’s second studio album, Anywhere But Here. ’If our first version of London in 925 was innocent and fresh-faced, then this is rougher around the edges. It’s a much more haggard place,’ Louis says. Earwigged conversations, text messages, snatched speech recorded underground; the city’s discarded words fed into the lyrics which map the experience of urban life on a young and frustrated generation. Produced alongside Portishead’s Adrian Utley in Bristol, the result is an angular, acerbic, bittersweet triumph.
