Anders Boson was previously a member of the Gothenburg pop soul band Fibes Oh Fibes !, which from 2003 and a few years onwards praised and updated the 1980s synth soul in a particularly wonderful way. After two ballad-oriented albums with a more jazzy touch, he has finally ended up in pure jazz with this sympathetically soft-swinging album.

With her bright voice and lyrical trumpet playing, it is of course difficult not to think of Chet Baker, but if you let go of both that and the comparisons you can make with Amanda Ginsburg, there are both elaborate songs and solid musicality to discover. Everything nicely arranged by Erik Dahl.

A mischievous blues – titled Bluesen – I could easily have done without, but otherwise the melancholic coziness is strongly present both in Boson’s own songs and the album’s two covers, The World Outside (a sped up and subtitled version of the Carla Bley song Lawns) and the folk rockers Bon Ivers Blindsided.

I can also report that the solo performances of saxophonist Axel Mårdsjö, trombonist Jakob Sollerman, pianist Simon Westman and bassist Olli Rantala are consistently high class.

This day Swedish trumpetist Anders Bergcrantz releases his newest album “ELEVATE”. And if there’s a musician who lifts up the music, it’s Bergcrantz. He has been awarded with the distinguished award as “Best Jazz Trumpet Player in the World” two times by the acknowledged jazz blog “Jazz Station” by Arnaldo De’Souteiro, and his extremely potent and aggressive play has since the 80’s been a constant source of satisfaction for jazz lovers. He has performed all over the world with his own groups and played with the iconic Page One among others and also many of our young, leading jazz musicians. Stylistically, we are back in the 70’s and 80’s when Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw set the agenda – while Bergcrantz adds inspirations from all that music which has influenced jazz since. This evening, Anders Bergcrantz brings some of the sister country’s absolute best musicians. Look forward to experiencing physical and acoustic jazz that blows you away, while the soul …

For now, Lines and Dots exemplifies five voices to watch on the European stage. Really excellent stuff that sits between Eric Dolphy’s “Out Of Lunch” and Barney Wilen’s “Zodiac”.

To Anders Aarum, a split personality can actually add to the magic. Shakin’ Our Souls proves the point, feeling like three albums blended into one: On the one hand, it offers driven, classically schooled jazz. On the other dreamy beatscapes propelled by pulsating grooves. And thrown in for good measure, there’s also the occasional excursion into atmospheric electronics. Aarum won’t even decide which instrument to focus on: Rhodes, Moog or just the piano? Thankfully for the listener, he just can not decide.

The Czech Zemlinsky Quartet, which attended master classes by Vaclàv Bernašek (Kocian Quartet), Josef Klusoň (Pražàk) and Walter Levine (LaSalle), proposes the first recording of Dvořák’s youthful works for quartet (1862-74) taking into account the cuts made in the critical edition (Supraphon-Bärenreiter). Consequently, the works are better suited to concert performance and show off to best advantage the spontaneity and richness of their inexhaustible melodic inspiration, ‘apprentice works’ that prefigure the universality of the future ‘American’ Quartet of 1893.

In Metternich’s Vienna, chamber music was the favourite distraction of a number of aristocrats and the leisure class as well as student Bohemia. By 1815, a teenaged Franz Schubert had already written (at least) ten scores for quartet, for the family circle, Hausmusik, without seeking to conceal his models borrowed from Haydn and, especially, Mozart. Natural melodic invention, amazingly elaborate harmonic skill and the spirit of the Lied did not fully assert themselves until the Quartettsatz of 1820, an Allegro assai, suddenly filled with anxiety, followed by 41 bars of an Andante suspended forever, ordinarily passed over in silence. Here, the Zemlinskys repeat the fantastic success that marked their previous performances of Dvorák’s early quartets.

Takashi Yoshimatsu’s wide-ranging musical influences often combine jazz and rock elements with classical, folk and world music. This album focuses on a unique series of three solo piano works for the left hand, inspired by his great friend Izumi Tateno. These lyric and beautiful miniatures are saturated in nature and birdsong, as can be heard in the evocative Tapiola Visions and in the seven bouquets that form Ainola Lyrical Ballads which are dedicated to Sibelius. In Gauche Dances, we hear a sequence that includes the tango and boogie woogie, displaying how eagerly and ebulliently Yoshimatsu breaks boundaries.

On 28 March 1842, the orchestra of the Vienna Court Opera, organised as a symphonic ensemble by composer-conductor Otto Nicolai, presented a concert that would develop into the Philharmonic Concerts and the Vienna Philharmonic. The principles on which the orchestra operates today were established then: artistic, organizational, and financial self-responsibility, with decisions made by the main body of active members, administrative work carried out by an elected committee, and membership made up only of musicians engaged by the Vienna State Opera.
