This Was Tomorrow The Tomorrowland Movie (2015) 720p+1080p MBluRay x264-TREBLE

Tomorrowland is no stranger to lengthy visual pieces. It helped bring about the gratuitously long aftermovie, which have in recent years pushed 30 minutes long of big firework displays, attractive festival goers smiling and overhead shots. Now organizers ID&T have unveiled their biggest vanity project yet, This Was Tomorrow, the festival’s official motion picture.

Though Tomorrowland is known for its main edition in boom, Belgium, the expansion to Brazil has been a big move for the festival and it is highlighted in the opening bit of the movie. This Was Tomorrow, gives viewers an insider look into how the festival is put on and puts right in the center of the festival. It follows the story of a few attendees on their journey to the festival from their homes with testimonials like “Tomorrowland changed my life,” and the like.

There are plenty of gorgeous shots of the wild and the grounds near where both Tomorrowland in Brazil takes place and in Belgium. Not to be outdone by the festival aftermovies there are tons of shots of the festival itself with all of the big, thundering main stage moments with fireworks, lasers and massive production that you expect at Tomorrowland.

It features interviews with some of the festival’s biggest stars including Tiësto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, David Guetta, Pete Tong, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Dave Clark, Josh Wink and many more.

The film tries to bring a common thread of people’s life stories into Tomorrowland, but alas it is just another promotional piece for the festival to try and push tickets. It works, but was it really worth the money they dumped in this? If anything the soundtrack has a few unreleased tracks from the likes Guetta and Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman. (more…)

The Stabat Mater is Dvorak’s most celebrated choral work. He began composing the piece in late 1875, but set it aside. Then, two tragedies befell him and he was plunged into an uncharacteristically melancholic mood. The deaths of his eleven-month-old daughter and three-year-old son compelled Dvorak to complete his masterpiece. Even though stricken with grief, Dvorak still could not resist writing simple, folk-like, melodies for his luminous Stabat Mater. On this performance, acclaimed conductor Mariss Jansons leads four superb soloists and the combined forces of the chorus and orchestra of the Bayerischen Rundfunk.
Recorded on March the 28th, 2015, at the KKL Luzern, Concert Hall.

Rolando Villazón as Nemorino exhibits a real gift for comic acting, manipulating his rubber face into dozens of hilarious poses, flawlessly turning stock comic gestures into laugh-out-loud moments, and even juggling apples with the panache of a circus performer. More important, he uses his lyric tenor to sing the part with impressive subtlety, suggesting Nemorino’s desperation while singing of his love for Adina. His big show-stopper, “Una furtiva lagrima,” features melting pianissimos and a breathtaking decrescendo in its final phrase. Netrebko’s Adina is every bit as good, with deft acting and a lovely lyric soprano voice that makes you understand why she’s the only girl for Nemorino. (more…)

Michael Jackson, the greatest entertainer who ever lived, makes his mark with his first solo album as an adult — Off The Wall — but to tell the story of this album you have to go back to the beginning. This film, directed by Spike Lee, starts with a glimpse into Michael’s evolution from the early days as a member of the Jackson Five to the point Michael decides it is finally time to release his first solo album — featuring his own music and with him having ultimate creative control. Spike then offers an in-depth look at each of the individual tracks on this seminal album, the cultural significance of Off The Wall and the impact it continues to have on today’s artists. The individuals who were interviewed for the documentary include some of today’s most important artists, e.g., John Legend, Pharrell Williams, The Weeknd and Mark Ronson, as well as other cultural icons, such as Lee Daniels, Misty Copeland, Kobe Bryan, and L.A. Reid. It is clear that the influence of The King of Pop and Off The Wall continue to be felt today. (more…)

Danko Jones, the band, stand and deliver crisp, catchy and crunchy hard rock with such exciting consistency that they have cultivated an equally loyal and consistently fervent fan base worldwide. Danko Jones, the frontman and guitarist, writes such irrepressible, hook-laden-yet-crunchy electric tunes that it’s impossible not to get sucked in by the alt-punk edge to his songs. The net result is a live performance driven by this power trio’s sweat and electricity. And now, for the first time in their two decade career, Danko Jones are bringing that live inspiration (and perspiration!) to CD & DVD/BluRay with the release of LIVE AT WACKEN on January 29th, 2016.
Featuring their 18 song 2015 set and various bonus material items spread across the formats, LIVE AT WACKEN provides firey bursts of energy, quirky alternative riffery and Jones’ own electric personality, one which has seen him become an independent commentator, spoken word artist and columnist for The Huffington Post. Bonus material will include a track-by-track commentary, an exclusive backstage interview with Jones and his spoken word performance from the 2012 Wacken Festival.
Live At Wacken will be followed by a busy 2016 as Danko Jones once again take their firebrand rock’n’roll revival on another world tour. Irrepressibly energetic, unflinchingly honest and engagingly addictive, Danko Jones never give anything less than 110% whether on stage, screen or stereo; unsurprisingly, everybody wants some!
