A little while ago, David Aubaile left, by bike, for a few weeks on the roads of France, dragging behind him a portable upright piano. He thus gave, with his storyteller companion, concerts in the villages of France, offering his music to anyone who would like to hear it, inviting himself to one or the other, according to the evidence. This journey says a lot about this extraordinary artist, who detects in music a dimension that goes beyond it, as a kind of possible link between beings.

Flutist and pianist, Aubaile grew up in a family of music lovers and scientific travelers. He studied music, law too, and ancient Japanese … Suffice to say that he is a curious man, a kind of original, a brilliant jack of all trades that only desire and curiosity guide. If he has rolled his hump alongside Brigitte Fontaine, Oumou Sangare, Ziggy Marley, Blick Bassy, Oxmo Puccino, Salif Keita, or Julien Lourau (…), he has also, over the years produced striking personal creations (“Thinko”, “Hima”, “Dolce Ostinato”). His musical world ignores borders and he likes to define himself as a kind of “trafficker” of music, a “specialist in nothing”, who basically does not master any tradition or folklore but has had the chance to soak it up in situ, during his many trips around the world. The sap of these musics has been transmitted to him over the course of meetings, as a precious and natural oral tradition that freely circulates from artist to artist. David Aubaile has made of his musical environment a kind of personal and imaginary folklore, which connects to each other worlds that we imagined distant.
